I've never ordered a car before so I want to make sure this process is going how it should to avoid any delays. On Monday I placed an order and signed a buyer's guide. It had the base price of the car and the options written out but no price. The dealer got a copy of my license and took a $200 deposit. That has been it so far. What else should I expect? When should the dealer be contacting me? I just want to make sure this is going as smoothly as possible.

You should have gotten a confirmation email from Ford regarding your order. That email will say the next time you hear from them will be when it's scheduled for production. Having said that, some have not received the confirmation email even though their orders were made properly. Ford's system hasn't been consistently reliable apparently.

I haven't received any emails. I called my salesman the next day and asked if I could change colors and he said no problem. This is the only thing I have gotten to date.

Is there a way to check with Ford with the info I have in this document?
I'm not sure what you meant by not "showing a price," because the document you show appears to be a Purchase Order, showing a price of $25,778.42 for the vehicle, before accessories. (It would be better to have an actual signature from a dealership representative on the document.)

According to the Ford Maverick configurator (try it yourself at www.shop.ford.com), the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for a 2022 Ford Maverick XLT 2WD with 2.0 Ecoboost engine is:

Base MSRP: $23,365
Options-
Cyber Orange Paint. 495
Ford CoPilot360 540
XLT Luxury Package. 2345
Destination Charge. 1495

TOTAL MSRP
$28,240

In addition to the above, it appears they list $50 for wheel lock accessory (which is less than the Ford price of $65).

If you changed the color from Cyber Orange to one of the "no extra charge" colors, then you can subtract $495 from the total MSRP in my example.

The $645 charge for "Other Fees" does not specify what this is for, but if you are planning to Lease the vehicle there is a $645 Acquisition Fee for the lease. If you are financing it with a regular auto loan (or pay cash in full), then you should not have any Acquisition Fee charged. (You can see this Lease Fee on the configurator: it seems to default to Lease and add the $645 charge, but if you click on the small calculator icon, and then click on the Finance tab, it removes the Acquisition Fee.)

The other Doc Fee of $24 and Title/Registration fees of $31 seem very reasonable. (Your state must not charge Sales Tax, since it does not show any on your document, which is huge. (I have to add 10.1% for sales tax in my location. Yikes! For me over $3000!). You should find out from the dealer an explanation for the $645 "Other Fee."

In summary, it appears the dealer is charging you $25,828.42 ($25,778.42 + $50 for wheel locks) for the vehicle itself. Since the MSRP from Ford would be $28,305 ($28,240 + $65 for wheel locks), it seems the price they are charging you for the vehicle is surprisingly low. ($2476.58 below MSRP!!)

In addition, the numbers they themselves show don't add up correctly: if you have a total shown cash delivered price after fees of $26,528.42, then subtracting the $200 deposit you paid should show an unpaid balance of $26,328.42 (rather than the $26,497.42 shown). Its not much, but off by $169. If they really can sell me the vehicle almost $2500 below invoice, I would not quibble over the $169, or even the $645 either for that matter!). I don't know how they could actually sell it at that price, but if so - Take the deal and Run!

Lastly, Ford is currently offering 0.9% interest rate on a 36-month loan currently, so the 3.6% rate is not as appealing. (I've heard online that if your place an order, then Ford will honor that incentive when you're truck finally arrives, but I personally don't know that from any hard evidence).

Looks like when I tried editing the post I ended up deleting so I'll repost the buyer's order below.

The $645 is the lease acquisition fee. I originally asked about a lease and that is how he drew it up. When I called him the next day, I mentioned I was interested in buying and he said that was no problem and I wouldn't need to make that decision until after the truck arrived on the lot. He said they could also check other lenders for interest rates or I could use my credit union which has good rates. The rate listed with Ford Motor Credit is for a lease. He did mention I would pay sales tax if I purchased the car

This is where I'm struggling with the price. The total price of the truck with all options is $28,650 and no where on that buyer's guide does it list that amount. This is the amount the salesman gave me verbally. My dad is a Ford retiree and I'm using his employee portal and get the same exact price. I just don't know why that price isn't reflected on this buyer's guide? The paint color changed it by about $100 so it should be roughly $28,500. This price he quoted me doesn't include the $200 deposit I left.

I just don't know if this is the right process and don't want to delay the process since I technically don't have a car right now.

Ford Maverick Order process? 16348744500711

Here is the build through my dad's A/Z portal. This matches up almost exact to what the salesman quoted me verbally. I changed to Hot Pepper Red which is still an upcharge but about $120 less.

I'll also add I never received a confirmation email from Ford. I am interested now in adding the FX4 package. It's no big deal if it's too late but I'm not sure when that time comes when it's too late to modify the build?

You have until the build gets scheduled and VIN is issued.

I agree with that 100%. The OP might want to check out this thread on the dangers of not having a buyer's order signed by both parties.
https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/f...ead-this-dealer-markup-by-bronco-dealer.3626/

I would go back to the dealer and ask for a copy of the buyer's order signed by the dealership. If you are worried about the numbers not seeming to add up, you can ask them to fix that at the same time.

[EDIT] It's true that you can usually modify your order (like adding FX4) later in the process, but Ford is going to cut off Maverick orders soon. So I would do it right away if you want to do it at all.

I'm going to call him today and see up adding the FX4. It's no big deal. The numbers add up from what he is telling me, however, it isn't on the guide as he didn't seem to include them in the quote.

Would it make sense to start another order with another dealer? I could then just go with whichever comes in first.

In reference to the $645:
It appears that possibly the $645 fee was deducted from the price on the paperwork order sheet (chosen because that amount appears elsewhere as a fee and apparently fees are non taxable in his state) and possibly moved $645 from the price after Ford's finance choice had removed it also. Note that in doing this he has done the buyer a Favor by saving buyer tax on $645 and by using 645 could claim on any tax audit that he intended the buyer to not pay tax on a fee and he was dumb and made a mistake in deducting it and will be happy to pay tax on it. Possibly saving penalties for not charging tax. Also now in handwriting on right z plan possibly reducing price some or might just be muding the works. It also appears that possibly the taxable figure has been reduced by the amount of the down payment paid separately and and was another oversight. Or possibly it's just NEW MATH that those under 20 understand.

This was originally written up as a lease. I'm considering buying and the salesman said I could decide to buy once the truck arrives.

Given that orders will be closing soon, I want to make sure this gets in. What should I ask the salesman when I call today?

With orders closing soon I expect them to already have entered data. It really appears to me that everything is going to happen and certainly they will fix paperwork to meet actual final closing. If it doesn't then worst case you can walk at that time. I have never done a lease but believe if it was a lease the "taxable amount" shown on form would much less as tax (at least should be) only paid on the portion of the car you are "buying" under the lease. The residual value (I believe) is not taxable. (Do not know how it works for sure).

I'm in a similar boat (buying, not leasing), but I don't have anything signed by the dealership, they just say that my order went through.

What should I ask for (and how) to make sure I'm not OOP for a huge markup at delivery?

Sorry, ask first "Did you get it ordered"? Then "I am uncomfortable and would like new worksheet showing exactly the way this is going down. What time would be convenient for you? I am mainly worried about getting the order in.

I have leased in the past and I believe the monthly payment includes tax. Basically, you pay tax on the amount from the sales price to the residual value.

I really don't want to have to walk away as I don't have a car right now. I had a 2019 Chevy Trax on lease. I had 12 months left and my plan was to get a Maverick when that lease was up. Since used car prices have gotten so ridiculous, I realized I could sell the Trax for a lot more than the lease payoff. I ended up selling it to a Chevy dealer for more than $4,000 than what the payoff amount was. I figured in 12 months I would never get $4,000 more and the Maverick likely wouldn't have $4,000 in rebates. For the time being, I'm borrowing my dad's old minivan.

My dealer says they don't markup, and to be honest, I haven't seen any dealers markup in my area.
