Bought my Maverick back in August, and now have 52xx miles on it. My oil life sensor still says I have 60% oil life left. With the current oil life it shows I will have over 10,000 miles on the truck before I should change the oil. I bought the service contract for oil changes at the time of sale. Will the dealer change the oil early if I request? 2.0 XLT

Yes...tell them you want your oil changed. They may ask are you sure...you say yup. Their sticker with next service do, won't even be close to your oil monitor service.

I’d think the contract should have the details you’re looking for on early changes. Not the same issue, but I had a Honda dealer tell me my new hybrid Accord comes with one free oil change, but that they wouldn’t change it till the monitor said 0%!

I had the same question. I'm in healthcare and I ain't waiting until my heart is at zero to go see a cardiologist. What number is the recommended oil change percent?

yes, the contract the OP refers to matters a lot for him, specifically.

the Maverick's oil sensor is not intelligent. it is just counting down from 12 months and/or 10,000 miles. I would not recommend 10k intervals but obviously Ford thinks it's sufficient. with a tiny half-pint oil filter, I'm not inclined to go 10k.

I have 7k miles on my ecoboost truck and I'm getting my oil changed Thursday. Ford dealerships have a standard service for 'The Works' which includes tire rotation, a few inspections, and semi-synthetic oil change.

Oil Life Sensor Data Changed???

I swear it used to show % and miles remaining. Now it only shows %.
Look:

I'm kinda OK with that tho, as miles will fluctuate as driving conditions change but a percent is always true. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I change my oil every 5000 miles since it is an EcoBoost and 75 %- 80% of my driving is stop and go driving in town.

Yes, look at your service contract. What are the intervals, 12 month/10000 miles ? Or 6 month/5000 miles or ??
The dealer will change the oil+, but who pays is question. If your contract says 10000 miles or by oil life monitor, you will probably have to pay, if the contract is for 5000 miles, they better pay. I got the Ford Maintenance Plan, it specifically stated 6 month or 5000 miles and full synthetic oil. I had no issues when I had the oil changed at 5 1/2 months and 5020 miles. The dealer says they believe in the 6 month/5000 mile intervals. After having major engine wear on my Honda, following the dash maintenance minder ( was about 10,000 mile), I will definitely be doing the 5000 mile change.

of course. I bet you have somewhere around 3100-3200 miles since your last change.

if you were to drive it at a much lower mileage rate, eventually the oil life remaining percentage would change to a percentage of 12 months from the last change. so for example, 2 months out (10 months from last change) if the mileage is not going to hit 10k by the 12 month mark, you will see around 16% life. That's 2 months until 12, divided by 12.

I have lived this for 2 years with my wife's Bronco, she does way less than 10k per year on it. Meanwhile, I put about 25k the first year on my Maverick.

My point above was:

Sometimes the app gives percent AND miles til next change, OTHER TIMES it only shows percentage. Glitch maybe?

Also, I am getting convincing evidence that it tracks how "hard" or "gentle" you are on the oil by your MPG.

MPG about 40? About Window sticker? That gives 10,000 miles.

MPG about 48?
That gives about 12,000 miles.

MPG about 30?
That gives about 7500 miles.

Another way to do this is track gallons burned. Example: change oil every 300 gallons of fuel used. Look at your own data if you keep records. Is oil at about 50% after you used about 150 gallons?

So far, I've hit the miles before the 12 months so can't comment if percent drops faster near the end of the "oil year" or not.

Only have 2600 miles on the truck after taking delivery Oct 6th. No oil change yet. I'll exceed 6700 miles by Oct 2024.

ah. that trends towards 12kish miles per year, so you should expect to hit 0% life sometime next summer and when it does hit 0% you'll get the wrench icon in the driver's instrument panel.
