Oops sorry guys, something (me) screwed up. I do the same, put in 3/4 of what it recommends after filling the new filter, start, then check dipstick after off and a beer, then top off. The picture came thru and that is really odd!

Yes, I know about overfilling the crankcase and foaming of the oil which can lead to oil starvation in some plpicaces in the engine. Bad! I toom out a pint of oil, dipstick is where it should be a d all is right with the world. But I still can't get this damn Pic to show up in my post!

That 6.02qt writing was on the truck when I picked it up. New with 3 miles on the odometer. Small rural ford dealer, no reason for him to write that on the top of radiator. I have been changing oil since I was 16, 62 years ago! I work in filling stations from high school through college. Done my own changes through dozens of vehicles. I know hiw to change oil! This threw me for a lop! I should have put in 5qt and checked, but I had another qt setting there and I was in a hurry to get finishished, last of 4 vehicles. My mistake I was just confused by the 6.02qt writing. Seemed like I was being alerted to something? Put maverick back on the hoist, took out the 13 tore screws and took down the card board cover. Pulled the drain plug and drained 1/2 Qt oil. All is OK. Just don't know why the writing on the top of the radiator.

Simple explanation: somebody wrote the wrong thing on your vehicle.

That is the wrong volume. You'll need to drain and redo it.

Honestly 0.3 qts isn't going to make any difference IMO. Going from 5.7 to 6 quarts is an extra nine ounces of oil out of a required 182 (5.7 quarts).

In fact, I may in the future just put the entire 6 quarts in from now on lol. I kept a little out when I did my first one but that seems pointless.

Hmmm. 6.02qt sounds like dry fill capacity at the factory. Maybe this note was a reminder to someone on the line that this step had not been completed.

I believe it is dry fill capacity.
That being said do not worry about it that little extra will absolutely never hurt the engine. Every ecoboost I have calls for 5.5 I add 6 and call it a day. Never had a single issue. Most mine go over 300k.

Ford could never make an engine or wouldn’t that would have any draw back with that little bit of difference.
better a bit over than under.

My first oil change I put in 5.7 qts and it was very slightly over the full mark. Second oil change I put in 5.5 qts and it was right on. I only put it on one jack stand on the driver's side. Probably doesn't drain 100% I guess.

This is probably an old thread, but I have a question? Just did my first oil change pn my 24 lariet Hybrid. 4000 miles of enjoyable driving with zero problems. Great vehicle! Changed oil and filter and put in 6qt of 0W-20 0il. Checked the dipstick and it is really over filled! Now, under the hood written in white marker is the notation, 6.02 qt 0W-20 so I put on 6 in to refill. Dipstick says it's over filled! Manual says 5.5qt! Do I need to take out a pint or just leave it in? I'm confused! Please give me some input here. Thanks
I have a a '24 Lariat hybrid. I used a Motorcraft 910s oil filter, a 5 qt jug + 1 qt of 0w-20 = 6 qts and my dipstick is right at the full mark.

NOTE: If you are not aware, there is hybrid specific oil. I use Mobil 1. What makes it "hybrid specific" is it has more of the additives that prevent the formation of white sludge. This is due to the fact the 2.5 liter hybrid ICE runs intermittently and does not always reach an operating temp that burns off moisture that causes the sludge to form. Don't run out and drain your truck - just consider it next time.

I agree, that is an oddity to have that written like that and makes you wonder the reason why. Has the previous owner been overfilling it the entire time they owned it or have you owned it since new. Also, people, when someone makes a comment like this, please keep it civil, there's no need to be rude, answer the question if you want or just scroll on by.

Looks like the image is showing here. If you have trouble uploading a pic, make sure it's smaller than roughly 3mb file size. And turn off your ad-blockers before attempting upload.

The owners manual says 5.7 qts for the Hybrid. My mechanic pulled up the Capacity elsewhere online. It said 6.2 or 6.02 - I forget which. Anyway, he didn't trust that and checked the truck after filling. Said it was overfilled and drained some out, before putting the under-shield back. When he told me, I looked at ford.com and also in the owner's manual to find that it is 5.7, not 6- something. As a precaution, I printed a sticker with the correct capacity and correct filter and stuck it under the hood.

They said it was brand new from the dealer. So either factory or dealership did it.

5.5 is it folks. That includes me filling the new stock sized oil filter with the new oil.
