Just went and test drove my 25. As a bunch of you know by my other thread, it came in with a chip in the paint. They repainted the drivers side rear panel. It looks good except for a small dent in the fuel door (they said they would fix it). Driving it seemed very similar to my 22 (as it should). One difference is the brakes feel less aggressive but smoother like you need to step on it more. The dash plastic around the new screen seems cheaper as I could press it in. It also seemed I needed to have my seat back a littler farther to be comfortable. This would give one of my kids a little less rear seat room. For the hell of it I went and sat in a new 25 Ranger. The Maverick is a little more roomy than the Ranger.

Talking numbers I'm undecided. The sales manger would only give me 20k for my current 22 with 6,300 miles on it. He said he has a bunch of XL and XLTs sitting on the lot he can't sell because of the rear camera issue... My current payment on my 22 is $307 a month. The new payment would be $461 a month. The reason I was looking for the upgrade is that it would be nice to have the ability to tow a travel trailer eventually. We had been looking at ones around 3,000lbs.

Update.

As suggested I checked Carvana and CarMax today. Both would give me 24k on my 22. I sent the pictures to the sales manager and said match that and we got a deal.

After going back and forth they are giving me 22,700 for my 22. I would lose out on the trade in tax credit if I went with Carvana or CarMax so in the end it works out the same!

Honestly if I was you I'd keep the 22, 84 months man paid off sometime in 2032. How many payments you have left on the 22? 6300 miles it's going to last a little while, my 23 Tremor bought on 7/10 has 9100 miles and I barely drive you must go down to the store once a week 😀. Not sure what interest rate you got in 22, but I'm going to take a pretty easy guess, lower than 6.64%. I mean it's nice to upgrade to a new vehicle, id personally just wait til the 3rd gen Maverick comes out.

It really doesn't make much sense the more I think of it. Only concern is not being able to tow a Travel Trailer with my current one. I would assume my 22 will hold it's value for a while.

I work from home. I drop the kids off at school in the morning, go to the store on the weekends and when I need to do truck stuff. All the other places we go we take my wife's Bronco Sport as she likes to drive most of the time.

Get your vehicle offer from Carvana. If more than the dealership offer show it to him. You can figure out how much the trade at the dealer saves on state taxes and go from there.

Keeping my 22 with 25k miles. You must decide if you need the change to pull a camper EVENTUALLY???

As someone who made the move from 23 Tremor to 25 Hybrid AWD 4K tow and it costing me about $5k to do it - I certainly would not make the jump you’re looking at.

I love my Maverick and I think it’s a much better vehicle than my 23 Tremor but for as little driving as you do and how low they value your trade it would just be a hard no from me.

completely agree.

also, anytime someone is talking about >60 month loans and it's not an RV or heavy duty truck, that's a red flag that probably they should not be purchasing it.

despite the slow rate of depreciation so far on hybrid mavericks, I think they will move closer to industry norms as more of them are in supply and they built a heck of a lot of hybrids in MY24. point being, if the OP got this loan for 84 months, I'd be real curious to see the truth in lending final cost, and I would fully expect that in most years this truck would need to be covered by gap insurance.

Chip then re painted body panel, it will look different in a few years I’d bet, like any body repaint,
Brakes not bedded in yet, no biggie,
Seat bolster not conformed to your body yet, it will crush down a bit and you can move your seat back up.

I honestly struggled with the fact that I’d be spending what I did for another Maverick because having the newest and fancy vehicle (or object in general) isn’t important to me but THIS Maverick is the one I wanted.

I’ll own this one till my son takes it over in 8 years, and hopefully they’ll have a PHEV Maverick by then.

If you’re comfortable with the difference I would certainly recommend the 2025 but that’s only a choice you can make.

I do think 22,700 is a fair price. For comparisons sake I only got 21,000 for my 2024 Civic EX (10,030 miles) - cost $27,250 but I also got $3,400 more for my civic than I paid for it.

Yeah I'm taking it. Picking it up on Monday! I will need a vehicle that can tow 3,000lbs if we decide to get a Travel Trailer. Any used mid size would be around the price of the Maverick and get half the gas milage. I did sit in a 25 Ranger yesterday and the interior is actually tighter than the Maverick and I don't want a full size. So Maverick is really my best option and I have been very happy with my 22.

I'm just glad those didn't exist when I was young. I dug myself a nasty hole with credit cards a long time ago. I eventually paid them all off, but it was not easy. Sometimes we have to learn the hard way, and that was a hard lesson for me. Debt is necessary for most of us with certain things, but debt is slavery. You sure do think of it differently when you figure that out.
