Hello y'all,

I was using the search function and I couldn't find anything.

Anyway, back in December we ordered a fully load Maverick and we had to pay a $500 nonrefundable fee.
We are in a urgent need of a car any time between now and next month and we still don't have a build date, which means we are going to cancel our order. However, I was just curious if anyone ever gotten the $500 back or fight with the dealership over this and got it refunded?

I mean the name says it itself, it is nonrefundable, don't get me wrong I understand what that means, but waiting for a Maverick 6 months and longer is not working for our scenario. We and the dealer had the idea the Maverick would have arrived by Summer. And we all know this is not going to happen. And by reading all posts, they will probably add a markup once it is there and earn way more money, so why keeping the $500?

Any advise to get the money back? Or just eat it? ...

Thanks!

There's no such thing as an order fee. That's 100% on the dealer. Ford does not require an order fee. Kind of hard to say since a lot of dealers don't charge a non-refundable deposit or order fee.

What state are you in? Some states regulate downpayments & deposits and have stipulations of when they must be refunded.

Legally they can't hold your deposit. There is no such thing as non refundable. All you have to do is mention that you spoke to your "lawyer" and things will get worked out. IMO you should wait for the Maverick and take it whenever it comes in. You will be able to get out of it within 48 hours if you really need to. As far as dealer markups on ordered units, I'm not sure where your dealership stands. We honor MSRP for ordered units or even if you have a special pricing plan, we would honor it on a order. Either way, good luck. I'll be happy to help any way that I can.

Have you contacted the dealership? I think they'd be happy to give you your deposit back. They'll be able to sell your ordered vehicle in a matter of days with a hefty markup over MSRP.

I would probably try to talk with the dealer and see if they will give you a refund. If they say no I would say OK I’ll keep my order and when it comes in I will sell it and make a profit instead of you.

I doubt you'd find a dealership that would not give you back your money, especially since they can make thousands selling it to someone else.

What everyone else said. They're idiots if they don't give you the refund back, because they either:

A: Are jacking your price 20%+ up above MSRP which you could EASILY make the case is a breach of contract and demand your money back or:

B: Aren't doing that and are selling the vehicle to you for a TON less than they could if you DIDN'T Buy it.

$500 to them is a small price for them to pay to get to sell it for what they're going for (~$6000 over MSRP last I read)... and if they try to sell it to YOU for $6000 over, I can't imagine any world where even the smallest amount of fuss kicked up by you (seeing as you made a $500 deposit on a truck then they claim to be able to raise your price infinitely at their whim and keep your deposit if you don't pay it) wouldn't cause heads to roll. Can you IMAGINE the hellstorm of PR they'd take if that story was publicized? It's flat out theft.

My guess is if you call them up, say that given the wait you need to purchase another vehicle and point out that this will let them sell yours for a significantly larger profit that you're hopeful they'll be able to return the deposit... but if not, you'll happily complete the purchase whenever the car arrives at the originally agreed upon price (MSRP), and resell it yourself (make this clear but try not to sound patronizing)... they'll happily cut you a check for your $500.
