If there was a Honda or Toyota same price/size as the Maverick I'd make the swap - unless it looked like the Santa Cruz If the Ridgeline wasn't so expensive and looked a little more truck like I would have easily taken it over the Maverick, so much nicer quality.

Every time I get in my son's 2012 Nissan Frontier and close the door I think, man this thing is so much better made than my truck. Better plastic, more solid feel when you close the door, just nicer all around.

The only thing that made these turtles less dangerous was the fact that even the normal cars were semi turtles, and the speed limit was 55 during the reign of the turtles. So most of the traffic was traveling around 60ish. With today's limits of 70 and most people driving 75ish +, they'd be super dangerous today in anything country roads . They could possibly be minimally acceptable on occasion on a low traffic section of interstate with a long entrance ramp. I had a 1971 Toyota Corolla with a 3KC (1200 cc) engine. There's a place where I'd enter a two lane road going up an incline. Since I was 20 years old, I've used this section to compare acceleration of various vehicles. In the Corolla I'd reach a speed of about 45 at the crest of the hill full acceleration. I'd just be shifting to 3rd gear after red lining in first and second. On the same section a 1979 LTD would reach approximately 55 which was considered a decently accelerating vehicle. A new Nissan versa (slow by today's standards) gets to around 65. My hybrid Maverick easily reaches 80. (Speed limit is 45) . This shows just how far vehicles have come. While my Corolla was slow even by those standards, it was nowhere near the slowest thing on the road.

I had a similar, 1974 Datsun B210. Great car, 39 mpg. But a slug. Doors were thin maybe 1 1/2" thick looked like made of tin. Drove it 201K miles though and sold it. Interstate limits here in the west tend to be 80 mph, and some drivers are pushing 85-90. We have a short on ramp here and you can't see traffic coming from under the overpass above until you are out there where you need to merge. Poor design. I use sport mode and romp on it and make 75 before I merge and 80 just a second or two after that! These little hybrid trucks will scoot!

A 2.7 LTR 4 in my 2008 extra cab Automatic.
528,000 hard ass commercial miles at about 90,000 a year, without a single glitch.
Traded it for a new 2013 F-150, a really sweet truck.

The way I Judge my 2024 Ecoboost is different.
I do not compare it to anything because Its not like anything else.

IMHO My Maverick rates high in every category that matters to me, At This Time.
Great smooth big car ride,
Great gas mileage out of my Ecoboost,
No Problems no glitches at 15,000 miles,
Plenty nice B&O sound system and good sound Insulation,
Hence, a very quiet ride,

And then there is turbo power, The 2.0 feels like the small V-8's of the 70's.

Hoping for the 2.3 Ecoboost doncha know.

It's interesting that even the AWD 2025 HYBRID Maverick has BETTER 0-60 times than the 1984 MUSTANG GT! Your EcoBoost would totally humiliate it. But the mustang GT will at least SOUND nice while it's getting beat. Getting beat by a 4 cylinder turbo is bad enough. But can you imagine the feeling of getting beat by a hybrid with it's annoying drone! Drooooooooonnn. If I was the mustang driver that got beat by something making the drowning sound my hybrid makes, I'd keep driving and just leave town

The Geo Metro was introduced 1989.
The NMSL was modified in 1987 and 1988 to allow up to 65 mph limits on certain limited-access rural roads.
I know out here on the open roads of Nevada it would cruise at 70 mph without a problem as long as you weren't going up a mountain. Nevada being the most mountainous state in the lower 48. Sometimes that's hard to do.
You also had the really plan passing anybody. A lot of people compared it to the Volkswagen Beetle and really there was no comparison the Metro had room for 4 people, it had great heat, plenty of headroom and was far more economical and efficient than a Volkswagen Beetle.

As an auto mechanic, I've worked on quite a few Chevy Sprint/Geo Metros. They were actually decent cars for their day. And although they were not fast by any stretch of the imagination, they'd run circles around the Beetle. And they'd do so in relative "comfort" in comparison.

It's always interesting when people compare the Maverick to the Ridgeline. Yes they're both unibodies. But that's about it. It's obvious that the Ridgeline is in the same class as the Tacoma, Frontier, and Ranger in terms of size and capability.

I actually think that the Maverick is bigger than it should be. Prior to 96, the F150 was virtually the same size as the Maverick unless you got the extended cab. The 86 Ranger was actually a bit smaller than the Maverick. Ever since then the midsize and large pickups have been getting bigger every year, and now are typically 2ft longer and 1ft wider. Its time to bring back the F100, the original Ranger and the Courier-sized trucks, and get rid of the oversized and overpriced F150 entirely.

the beetle would leave them in the snow,the squarebacks would push snow with the bumper,I actually miss the beetle and would love to have one again,I think the rear drive Telo might be a fair substitute( the designers listened to me a bit!

I had one VW Beetle.
Driving sixty mph felt like I was hauling ass.
Then I’d encounter a head wind
60, 55, I’d punch it and hold 55 mph, then it was a side wind. They’d slow me right down.
The heater only worked when you were moving.
I think mine had 45 horsepower.
$5 worth of go juice and this teenager could drive it all weekend all over the place.
Gas was .89 cents.

In 2013 I bought a New F150 STX 5.0 for $24,500. Both my Mavericks in 23 and 25 were more. It is what it is.

The Ridgeline's full size truck efficiency was a non-starter for me. You could have grabbed a Ridgeline for a few grand more than a Lariat, it was in my wheelhouse just didn't check the boxes I needed it to check.
