So what is it then? Conspiracy theory? Widespread corporate incompetence? 🙄
Very good question!
They appear to have the basic materials to make the base car but not it’s brains, just feels very convenient and odd to me. Same covienent response from other auto makers. I don’t know, it seems we are expected to believe something that doesn’t make business sense.

It's not that there's a "shortage" per say compared to past years. Personal wealth has skyrocketed during the pandemic. Between people gaining insane amounts of equity in their homes and also spending significantly less than they were on necessities and more on frivolous things like computer, video games, etc, of course inflation has risen. The problem is that more people are buying "things" than ever with this "wealth". The amount of people I know who either bought a second home in the country/beach/lake/whatever and also purchased a car at some point during the pandemic is ridiculous. I have childhood friends that lived in a major metropolitan city their entire adult lives and never owned a car who now not only also own a home in the "country" but have purchased at least one car since the pandemic. Personally speaking, going from commuting to an office, spending money on gas, tolls, maintenance, incidentals to working from home and making all of my meals, etc, I have been able to save more than ever AND start a side business with my free time that I would have spent commuting or doing errands that I now get done on my regular work week. Now, I'm purchasing another vehicle solely for my side business because I can't even keep up and need something more suited to the work I do.

Unfortunately, I think this is how things are going to be for the foreseeable future until something crazy happens like the economy taking a complete and total dump.

It's called a "shortage" and it's not just chips. Have you been in any stores lately?

The global chip industry is actually concentrated in just a few factories. If you think this shortage is bad, wait until china invades taiwan.

The problem is that these kinds of chips are a low profit item that takes a high capital investment to produce. Chip foundries are not cheap, simple or fast to build.

I haven't bothered to ask my dealer about allocations. I'm happy to get some more $$$ out of my '97 Camry since I dropped money on tires for it in December, spent the time to swap out the rear struts in January and dropped $1000 on suspension components last summer. The thing runs so well it's tempting to drop the $2000 to get it prepped and painted just to see how far it will go.
Is it the 5S-FE I4? That has to be the smoothest 4-cylinder I have ever experienced. The Gen4 Camry has a special place in my heart.. my first "shared" car with my first love. Adored that car.

I see the drama is turned up to a level 12 on a 1-10 scale about no scheduling for a week. Most of the really popular dealers on this forum have no more allocations this month anyway.

But to those of you "I can just buy a Tacoma" folks.. What is the MSRP and equipment comparisons on the Tacoma vs the Maverick? Taking a Tacoma when you want a Maverick is really weird - the Tacoma is a good truck, but it costs way more, is way less efficient, and has really weird driving positions and interior proportions. A Maverick competitor it is not.

I've missed my Honda Element a long time...

I'm 6'4" and for the life of me cannot get situated in a Tacoma without ducking my head to look out the windshield...forget turning my head to check the side view mirror. Will never understand why such a popular truck is so strange inside.
I had one of the Maverick "alternatives" because I didn't want to wait...a 2022 Nissan Frontier. Can't say I enjoyed averaging 14 mpg dropping my kid off at school while the 9 speed transmission ran through the gears like shuffling a deck of cards. A really nice truck in many ways, until you pushed the gas pedal. Overall, not worth the inflation driven mid-30k pricetag for me.

There really is no actual Maverick competitor. So I urge people to wait, not seek instant gratification buying something that will cost more and they will probably like less.

This pretty much sums it up. Every time I get restless and decide I'm going to get something else, I end up back to realizing why I ordered a Maverick in the first place. Affordable, efficient, truck. Only the Maverick checks all the boxes.

Well, that's bogus. I really thought mine would get scheduled this week (2/14) because it's at priority code 2 and I'd seen some other mid-August Lariat hybrids w/lux getting scheduled. Now no joy for the upcoming week either. Oh, well....another few miles on the '97 Camry.
Did you receive an email from Ford telling you it was going to be built the week 2-14? If not, have you received an email from Ford when you ordered your Maverick? If not, contact your dealer/salesperson and find out if they used your email when placing your order in the system.

Just because you are priority 2 doesn't mean you are next to build, I sat for a month at Priority 2 before getting the wonder email telling me when my Maverick was going to be built.

No need to think a "build date" means anything. Mine has been built since January and I've been emailed by Ford to expect delivery in May.

Ford just wants to keep me Satisfied, so I got that going for me.

Except it's the honest truth. Without chips and parts, Ford can't build trucks. I must think they don't like it any better than we do. No trucks delivered, no sales, no money coming in. Nobody likes it but it's the painful truth and sometimes the truth hurts. ☹
Honest? My truck and its specific parts are what the corporation is concerning itself with? Seven months of focused concern. Trucks are in fact being manufactured every week and sold for profit, nothing wrong with that. But I don't believe the premise just because it's literally true that there are shortages. Curated words I suppose.

I realize you can sit at priority code 2 for a while. My hope was based on seeing other mid-August Lariat w/lux hybrid pkgs getting scheduled. I got a "we received your order" email from Ford, so I'm good there.
