I know I had a Tacoma that I thought was pretty big till I parked next to a larger pickup that dwarfed it. Now I'm driving a Maverick which is even smaller so I buy in to the photo.

The real kicker for me is that the one in the middle will serve my needs. Understand that may not be the case for everyone. As a bit of a tree-hugger, I see a ton or so more resources involved in the construction of the other two and thousands of gallons of fuel more being used over the lifetime of the vehicles.
Not only that, those

Yes! Totally agree. And those behemoths are a drag to drive. I like to zip around parking lots and I have to drive those things like a big fat grandpa.

I will be so glad to replace my Ram 2500 with a long bed for the maverick in the grocery store parking lot. Just have to be careful not to do it on two wheels because it will feel so good.

This thread prompted me to compare my Maverick to my co-worker who owns a GMC 2500…..

:ROFLMAO: parked next to a 450 today at the dealership. Yep, this is real. As I drove into Menards expecting to be surrounded by a crowd congratulating me on the Maverick, I realized, nope, not that kind a vehicle. Not huge. Not flashly. No fancy LED dancing lights. So having spent the last 12 years in Denalis, had a moment of sadness. But then I looked at my gas mileage proudly displayed on the dash, and it was all ok. Truck with the gas mileage of a prius. Function over flash. As I told my sales guy, it was a buy that I felt good about. So as the Truck Giant guy laughs at us at Menards, next time we hybrid owners happen to stop in a gas station ( to get my wife's free circle k soda, because I dont need gas), we can look over at the owner of a Truck Giant taking fifteen minutes to fill up his duel 20 gal tanks, and just smile. It will be the private joke shared by all maverick hybrid owners (and non hybrid too!). Kind of like the Jeep wave I think.

My Silverado is a 350 with a new process 5 speed overdrive , and 12 bolt with 3.55 gears and a locker. Never had a problem with any of it. Truck has 165K on it and still runs the original clutch, engine, trans and rear.

The mav I ordered is a Granger deal XLT AWD with full size spare, tow hitch and little else. It's a cheap $$$ truck. The problems that are gonna crop up with these are people thinking they are a big rig because optioned right they can pull 4,000 lbs. It's a 2 liter turbo engine. It isn't gonna last long if people require that from it a lot.

I dropped the 4k off mine and left the tow hitch since it was a cheap option and is pre wired. Good enough to pull a small utility trailer. The other thing that will kill these engines in short order is no oil vapor catch can, running non synthetic motor oil, extending out oil changes, and not letting the engine idle for about a minute to get the turbo to idle down before shutting off the key.

People dont realize that a typical turbo which is a very precision part typically idles at about 5,000 to 7,000 rpm, and at wide open throttle can spin up to 50,000 rpm or more. Whatever the book says about oil change intervals halve that number, only use synthetic, and change oil filters between oil changes. Filters are cheap. You can get them by the case at rock auto.

Example if ford says oil change interval is 10K with synthetic on ecoboost. Then change it every 5K and change filters every 2,500. If your too cheap to run synthetic which is actually pretty cheap at walmart, then change your oil and filter every 2,500-3,000

Turbos hate 2 things.

1. Dirty oil which cokes up the bearings because of the intense heat on the hot section of the turbo, and eventually locks down the turbine shaft. When it does, your turbo vehicle instantly becomes a gutless wonder.

2. Shutting the engine off without letting the turbo idle down since it will spin down to a stop on dry bearings when you turn the key off. Turbos get their lubricating oil from the engines oil pump. Key off, oil pressure instantly goes to zero. Letting the engine idle for awhile let's the turbo slow down to a lower idle speed before you turn the key off and theres no oil pressure on the bearings.

I am a mechanic by trade, car lover by hobby. I cut my teeth on turbo chrysler products in the 1980s. I was a master tech back then. I had a Daytona shelby Z with a turbo intercooled 2.2. Oil and filter was changed religiously every 2,500 miles and was non synthetic. Never had any issues with the car or the turbo. Sold it with 150K on the odometer. Used to have people come in all the time with coked up turbos on their cars because they would try to stretch 10K out of a damn oil change. People would tell me the chrysler turbo car they owned sucked because they put 2 turbos on it in 100,000 miles. I'd ask them how often they changed the oil, then I'd tell them, no your lack of maintenance is what sucks.

I see a lot of sour grapes with these trucks at about 40k when blown turbos from a lack of preventative maintenance causes failures, or people trying to tow more than the rated amount with one causes premature failure. I know I wont be having any of those issues. I know how to maintain and care for turbocharged vehicles the right way.
Well said

Mine in November 2021 in the back lot before delivery, between a Ranger and a F250 K.R. as I recall.

Took this on a trip last week. I have an old F150 that doesn't feel that big. But the Maverick feels so much bigger than it looks.

The width of these massive trucks is a massive center console and huge thick doors. Also the frame sits it up much higher and there's higher ground clearance.

The Maverick had almost the same footprint as a Buick Regal.

My 1994 Silverado I bought new still gets roughly 24-25 mpg highway. I laugh at people who equate V8 with gas guzzler. It's a 350 with a 5 speed O/D manual trans, and 3.55 rear end gears. I did a nice 300 mile round trip from Abilene to Arlington Tx and back a couple years ago and rolling at 70 mph with the cruise set, along with the usual fill ups, and mileage calculations that's what I came up with. Pretty impressed as it has 165K on the odometer.

I wont be selling this old truck. 28 years of ownership she is part of the family. My 9 year old son called dibs on her. The maverick is going to be a nice comfy daily driver with AWD for winter driving for me for the next 10 years. After that I will see how far this "new" one will go. I plan on getting the extended warranty on all the electronics on it. TBH the electronics in this one scare me. A lot of CanBus type stuff, a lot of boxes talking to boxes. My 94 has one computer. It runs the fuel injection and ignition timing/advance. That's it. Pretty simple.

For any of you wanting to keep one of these for a long time, i recommend getting the extended electronics warranty. You might be glad you did.

I saw a picture of a Maverick next to an early 2000s F-150 and the size didn't look much different from the how the picture was taken. If the Maverick was out in the early to mid 2000s it would be considered a mid size Truck.

Yeah. I was thinking of making some changes to my XLT but afraid to extend the wait time. But, that extended warranty shouldn't be an issue. I'm used to doing all my own work, even on my '91 Miata but the hybrid would be beyond me. It's all controls, software and weird logic stuff.
