Look into those deer whistles. Truck drivers use them a lot.

I think that’s definitely worth looking into. Especially since I live in deer country!

Thanks for asking. I’m physically ok but honestly pretty bummed about my maverick. I love that truck and am impressed how tough it is. That’s actually the second deer I’ve hit with that truck. Was very lucky the first time.
I completely understand that feeling. People asked me if I was okay, and I was perfectly fine. But I was just so upset about the truck. And I'm sure they are gonna fix it up real nice and make it look like nothing happened, but it just sucks. I didn't care about myself at all when it happened lol, I did have my pup in the truck, but she was fine too. I did feel better when people reminded me that it I was more important than the truck. So the same goes for you. It sucks, but you're okay, and that's what matters. Insurance is a bit of a headache, but I guess this type of stuff is why we pay for it.

That’s right. We pay for insurance and we hope that it gets taken care of. Vehicles can be fixed or replaced but not people.

Deer whistles do not work. There is a whole list of reasons why that relates to sound frequency, Doppler effect, how loud they are, variations in build quality, and so on. Feel free to take a dive down the reasons why if you want more details.

Anecdotally, we don't use them out here in the super-rural because they simply don't work. Save your money.

Sounds like you have experience with this problem. I will take your advice. Maybe I should put a straight pipe on my truck 😁

It is kind of hilarious how accurate that statement is for around here. We don't have smog checks of any kind and people most certainly take advantage of it. Our noise laws functionally exempt vehicles. No way Dept. Joe is sighting that '67 Fastback for noise.

Diesel? DEF delete and straight pipe or stacks.
Gasoline? Straight pipe it.

When having custom exhaust done one of the first questions I get asked is, "Do you want a muffler or cat on that, totally optional?"

Edit:

Last week I was going down the highway and an old Ram went flying past and rolling coal. His rear window had a giant sticker that said "Prius repellent" and arrows pointing to the 4" stacks coming out of the bed.

Been wanting a maverick for a long while now, but my wife and I couldn’t justify getting one while we currently didn’t have a car payment. But my Kia started going out, so we traded it in and got a maverick! Got it two weeks ago, and last Saturday, a deer decided she wanted to take a closer look at the truck. Absolutely last minute, nothing I could do to prevent it. I was even going a considerably low speed because I was still nervous to drive a new vehicle. Luckily, everything looks repairable and there doesn’t seem to be any mechanical damage.

Damn, I guess the moral of the posts is to stay out of Texas right now. Two members hit deers within 4 days of each other. Glad everyone is ok.

Absolutely, had it back for a week and a half... Took the Ford bodyshop 2 months due to a backordered wiring harness.

Yes, it sucked, made 2 payments on a truck I couldn't drive.😟😢

Rough Country low profile. Pros: harder to get into that a soft to new cover which you can slice right through with a pocket knife. Obviously it folds up so you can carry larger items in the bed when you need to or to easily access your bed. Easily removes with two bolts. Install is easy takes 30 minutes first time then once the rails are on takes 5 minutes to take it off 5 minutes to put it on.

Cons: takes about 20 minutes longer for the initial install because you have two side rails to mount.

Is that grille cover over the original? or did you take it off and replace it?
If you mean me, Yes it's the original. I took it off scuffed it up and painted it myself. Along with the Ford emblems.

I want to change mine, but I'm nervous to take the bumper apart. Was it difficult to get it off?

No not one bit, there's 3 clips on each headlight that just pop loose using a plastic trim removal tool, then above the grill in the engine bay there's a total of about 6 to 8 screws to remove then there's one on each side of the front of the grill next to each headlight that need to be removed. This will gain you enough access to lean the grill out in order to take six more screws off the inside of the grill in order to pop the clips loose holding the grill bar to the grill. The bolts were all 7 mm and 10 mm.

After that it's free and you're able to paint it as you wish. Took me about a half hour to remove it taking my time. No need to remove the whole grill and bumper. You're just basically loosening the grill to gain access to the clips holding the grill bar onto the grill.

Like anything nowadays there's a couple YouTube videos showing you how to do it but you can see what needs to be removed as you go.

Then what I did before reinstalling the grill bar, I reinstalled all the screws holding the grill on and the cover above it in the engine bay, then the grill bar I just snapped on once it was cured from painting.. That grill bar is only held on with plastic clips, but to access the plastic clipson the center of the grill you need to disassemble the two pieces of the gril to access the clips without breaking them as they're just cheap plastic. The grill is a odd 2 piece design.

Update on my maverick..it was totaled šŸ˜”. Very bummed about that. Got a great settlement from insurance though so that makes it a little better..my salesman said if I order a 25 it will probably be 7 or 8 months! Does anyone out there know if that’s accurate? My 22 only took 3 months.
