If the back up sound is so necessary why did Ford put the sound maker in the front of the vehicle?
Because the FMVSS SPL requirements for the sound is higher in forwards motion (59dB @ 30km/h) than reverse motion (45dB).

I have never noticed the sound generator when going forward. When you say '@30km/h' does that mean 0-30kph or only @30kph or 30kph and above? I assume it is 0-30 but I just want to be sure. Thanks

0-30. The SPL requirement increases with speed forward motion. 42dB @ <10 kmh, 48dB @ 10-20, 54dB @ 20 - <30, 59dB @ 30-32.

If you put the driver's window down and shift from neutral to Drive you should be able to hear it turning on.

Because if they put two speakers everyone on MTC would be posting about how silly that was and they'd be offering kits for how to combine it all into one.

That's why.

Maybe they forgot to reinstall some of the underbody shields and made the low speed sound louder?
Doubt it, sound volume didn't change, the actual sound seems like it did. Same sound is there with some additional "growl", like a low pitch sound added.

It's whenever the truck is "in gear". If you go into a small garage, or to a drive-thru or next to a large concrete or brick wall, put the truck into "park" and you'll notice the sound go off (if the ICE isn't running).

Thanks! This confirms my suspicion that it gets louder as you go faster then probably turns off as the truck is going fast enough.

And for people who aren't familiar with dB, 3 dB equals DOUBLE the level of sound of the lower number. So 45 dB is DOUBLE the sound of 42, and 48 is DOUBLE the sound level of 45 dB. Funny though our ears don't hear the sound being "4x as loud".

Wow, I park my Mav in a small garage 5/7 nights and have never noticed this while driving forward. I hear it in reverse but never in Drive

thanks for the video, maybe I always thought that was just the electric motor and drive system. I am going to take a closer listen after work today.

Here's one for your amusement. My 2003 MR2 Spyder beeps when you put it in reverse. However it beeps INSIDE the car. No one outside can hear it. So stupid.

I always assumed that growl was a pump or something, thanks!

I was an owner of a 2005 Hybrid Escape. More than a decade before artificial noise makers. Was dead silent in EV mode. Really fell in love with the quietness.

On the drive home in the Maverick, I totally felt what a piece a shit. This thing is making such terrible noises with only 15 miles on the odometer.

I was pulling my hair out the first month. Was like nails on a chalkboard to me the first month. I had planned to disconnect the speaker or at least pack the cavity with cotton.

But after a month, kind of got used to it. Now it's normal.
