Ford states not to go over 70 mph when flat towing. Does anybody have any experience with this. I want to flat tow behind my class A motorhome. I sometimes on a downhill grade hit 75 mph but not often

I obey the 70-mph limit. Overspeeding is a peril I don't want to risk for a warranty problem.

I tow at 62-65 and make sure I never go over 70. There are way too many computers keeping track of things, and Ford will look at overspeeding the transmission as a great excuse for a warranty denial.

Lately, I've seen lots of Ford Truck owners complaining about how they destroyed their transmissions and Ford won't pay, blaming owners for not following Neutral-tow guidelines.

I have flat towed my 2015 Ford Edge AWD behind my motorhomes.
About 10K so far in tow with no issues to the car.
Speed is normally kept around 65 but 70 and even 75 happens as traffic demands sometimes.
100K on the car odometer with no tow related issues.

60-65 is my sweet spot, I never go over 70MPH even when I'm not towing, 20,000lbs + a tow vehicle at 75+ no thanks. I put the RV in tow/haul mode and let the trans/engine do the work at a safe speed. plus depending on your RV tires, speed rating may be close to 75 or 80.

I dislike Tow/Haul mode.
It doesn't seem to want to let the RV decelerate properly.
At least in the two RVs I've had, both Ford chassis with the V-10 motor.

Thanks for the reponse, my rv is on a freightliner chassis with a 6 speed Alison transmission. Just put it in drive and let her go. I use it like a manual with the buttons, especially in the street less wear and tear on the brakes. As I said in the original post, only occasionally hit 75 on a downhill grade, my sweet spot is 68-70 mph. I was just wondering if the 70 mph restriction put out by Ford was due to their specs on the transmission or just safety issues. We know how things are today . Thanks again

the speed limit Ford recommends is more of a common snese/safety issue than a transmission issue. Sometimes I creep above 70 or if traffic dictates it but I generally like to keep my speed below 70 when towing. People forget it's usually not towing but the stopping that will cut your arse. 🙂

Better fuel mileage in tow/haul mode. Transmission shift points change. I also use the manual shift mode to save on brakes. Just traded for the new Godzila V8, what a difference! 2mpg better and much more torque. '22 Lariat/'24 Jayco Greyhawk 29MV.

Tow/Haul is a wonderful mode in my 3.5L V6 Ford Transit Chassis (Ford replaced the Transit diesel in 2020 with this wonderful gas motor...310hp, 400 ft-lbs and 10 gears) . Smooth and easy and you can descend without hitting the brakes much on most grades, even while towing my Maverick.

Spinning the tires always spins the traction motor and generator motor.

There is no disconnect. There is only a "simulated neutral".

Yes it is allowed up to 70 mph, at this point the traction motor and generator will be spinning 17,500 rpm in equal and opposite directions.

🤷🏻‍♂️ Up to you if you feel comfortable spinning them faster.

Yes, the hybrid is unlike other vehicles when flat towing.

A really good reason to NOT exceed 70 mph is how fast the motors inside the "transmission" are turning even when engine is not engaged. I have been over 70 for short durations several times with both my Cmax and Maverick hybrid while flat towing. Zero issues over tens of thousands of miles. But I do NOT intend to cruise at over 70 mph....

I have had many Ford Sport Trac’s which I have towed behind our class A motor home using the neutral tow feature. However this is the first vehicle that has a limit on speed as the Maverick but I understand the reason for it is since it is not free wheeling as the Sport trac’s were and the RPM of the electric motor equates to 70 mph. If you what further details on this subject search in this forum. And yes it is hard to limit yourself to the 70 mph and occasionally I have caught myself exceeding that limit as you said going down an incline.
