Need towing advice

Hey guys - towing neophyte here. I have a 2022 XL ecoboost AWD which I love! Towing capacity is 2000. How much weasel room above this number do I have? Really want to tow a 2000 lb camping trailer (dry weight). Thanks - I appreciate you.

I don't know ... but 2000-2000=0.
We know that Ecoboost is capable to 4K ...but without the other components
(gearing/cooling), how long would your 2k last running above limits?

Are you going to mention the make and model of the trailer?
A pop-up vs a standard squared off travel trailer?

Are you going to mention how far you will tow while being above the Mav's limit?
Less than 10 miles to the local lake or campground vs cross-country over mountain ranges?

Have you considered just trading in your current Mav for a new AWD 4K model?

I'll just say "official" ratings are low to, you know, protect you from you and to decrease potential warranty claims

If you are gentle with it and stay in the right lane, there's overwhelming evidence you'll be fine.

Disclaimer: I've only driven the hybrid and it is more capable than published.

Anyone towing:

Add a brake controller and a ScanGaugeIII.

A big part of the 2000 lb. Limit is no trailer brake controller and a scan tool lets you see all the temperatures in real time so you can back off the throttle if anything gets too warm for comfort.

I don't know how much weasel weight you are talking about since there are many variable that need answers but here are a some questions.
How many passengers and stuff (weight) in the truck are you going to add? Few people tow a dry weight trailer when they go camping so how much more weight are you adding to the trailer?
Does the trailer have elec or surge brakes?
Are we talking towing across the country, flat land, mountains and what speeds?
I have the 4k tow package and tow 4k without issues but I downsized my trailer to stay away from excessive weasel weight.

Towing 500 lbs over, if its your boat to a launch 2 miles away. Not a problem. If though trying to tow 1000 lb over going from Virginia to Utah ah NO. IMO

I not one to weasel beyond specified limits, imo they’re there for a reason, like what’s been stated already, how far and how much total over are you talking about. Maybe rent a vehicle for the excursion

The towing capacity is determined from a rather involved test procedure specified by SAE J2807. This includes meeting certain acceleration, braking, and handling standards including a 11 mile climb up a specific hill in AZ in 100 degree temperatures. After reading the about the test, you can see why the ratings may seem conservative and make a judgement about how much weasle room you might have depending upon your use. As others have said, 500# over handled cautiously shouldn't hurt anything (but I didn't say you could do it).

No problem..I towed a 2950 RV from Fla to Deadwood SD with my XL 2022 Mavrick (not all wheel drive) and got 15.3 Mpg for the trip. It performed.

The words, "towing neophyte", and, "weasel room above this number", should never be in the same sentence. This is asking for problems for yourself and anyone else on the road with you.

Just don't do this. If you have to ask, you can't, and shouldn't.
