Just got my 2022 Maverick XLT Hybrid in December and now am ready to flat tow it behind my motorhome. Has anyone had any recent experience with flat towing the Maverick, advice/concerns?

Thanks for the help.

How much experience do you have flat towing? What setups did you have before, if any?

Can I use any of the three grounding lugs on the frame in front of vthe positive stud for the fused wiring harness for my front license plate holder mounted led bar, with 2 separate 5/16 x 18 nuts, one for the charge line and one for the bar?

Best looking baseplate by for is Roadmaster’s as it goes through exiting openings in the grill versus Blue Ox cutting ugly holes. I used the NSA Ready Brake tow bar that has a built in surge brake that connects via cable to the brake peda. Simple, mechanical, nothing to break and will save you $2k versus any other built in auxiliary brake system for your Maverick. $1,380 for towbar and all brake cables. Run a trickle charge to your battery directly from your 7 way connector. have towed over 4,000 miles with this setup. https://nsarvproducts.com/collections/aluminum-tow-bar/products/rv-tow-bar-ready-brute-elite-ii

Where/to what did you connect the charge line from the seven pin in the engine compartment please?

I just had the same installed, but the installer said that they couldn’t install the mechanical braking cable through the firewall in correct spot to attach to the brake pedal. I have the hybrid. Were you able to install the mechanical brake cable that comes with the Ready Brute Elite tow bar? Thanks for your input!

I have the Ready Brake system set up on my Maverick. Don't know why they said they could not fit the cable through the firewall? Mine works fine and it wasn't complicated at all.

The only "issue" I had was figuring out a way for the cables other end to come out in the center of the lower grill opening like it is supposed to. I built a standoff mount to bring it forward so the bend in the cable was less severe.

Do you have any pictures on how you counted and connected the cable?

Didn't take any pictures. Rather tight working area and hard to get a drill in there to make the hole. A smaller air powered 1/4" drill really helped with that. The connection to the brake pedal lever is straightforward. I did what the instructions show to do and it has never needed attention since installation.

I just installed the Demco baseplate on my 24 Mav hybrid. Next step is to get the Ready Brute Elite II setup. I'm at the point of trying to figure out a safe location for drilling the 5/16" holes through the firewall. Some have used a grommet that seems to high and too far left of the pedal. @realshelby were you able to drill directly behind the brake pedal without damaging anything else?

I cheat because of the weight of my tow vehicles. My Mini Cooper that I tow is barely over 3000 lbs and the Maverick is only going to be about 500 lbs more. I used to tow large pickup trucks and a heavy Cadillac Escalade behind full size diesel pushers and never used any braking systems. Seems with vacuum assisted brakes on the tow vehicles these units don't do much without the engine running. (Other than keep the Highway Patrol people happy!) I now do the same with a Mercedes Sprinter 25' Renegade Vienna towing the Mini Cooper and will be doing the same with a Maverick. I was always going to pick up a used Brake Buddy as a decoy but never have.
As for wiring I always used the diode system and tapped into the factory wiring but we had some problems with that and almost burned our Cadillac Escalde up. I now use the wireless tow lights that magnetically attach to the rear of the tow vehicle. You plug the transponder end into your lead vehicle and go! No more wiring a toad, and no connecting cable to worry about dragging, coming unpluged, or corroding! They do take AA batteries and they do offer rechargeable units too. I chose the battery style because if they go dead mid day I can just replace them and not have to stop and recharge. They have one little toggle switch under one of the lights I turn off each night when parked. Do this and your batteries will last months and months. Great visibility also for towed units carrying bicycles or cargo pods on the back that may block your taillights. Really been a slick light solution that works on multiple vehicles for a mere $115.00!!

I have towed my 2024 hybrid lariat 3,000 miles so far and it handles it great. My only issue was I tried using an older brake and it was to harsh on the electric brakes on the hybrid. Had to buy a new blue ox brake with a hybrid setting. Then all is good. Max 70mph, and exercise every 6hrs. Is a pain but once you are good at putting in and out of toe mode, it doesn't take long. Love it.

1st post..I have 1,500 miles on my 24 hybrid lariat and really enjoying it. One of the primary reasons I got it besides needing a vehicle, is for the flat tow capability. Ive never flat towed a vehicle so lots to learn there. I went with the Roadmaster baseplate and Knighthawk tow bar. I connected everything today to verify fit and function and everything checked out. I'll take it for a tow in a few weeks when I have more time. Couple pictures of my setup with the Unity LTV.
