Did oil change today, noticed this bracket that doesn't seem to be doing anything. Seems like just 2 bolts holding it in place. Anyone know what its for?

I do my own oil changes so I am familiar with that area. I am not sure from your photo what you are referring to.

The large hole in the shield is where, early on in 2022, FoMoCo removed a baffle. I think it had something to do with engine fires?

It's to increase torsional rigidity for the front sub-frame.

Hi LtCasual - I just looked - yes, my 2024 hybrid has it. I dunno why.

It must be there for an engineering related reason related to ridgity or some need to stabilize that area? It also provides a place to tuck the shield into but that can't be the sole reason. All guesses, no real fact based answer.

Yes , helps stabilize the too front subframe support brackets . It is slightly slotted so not super supportive but is there for overall tie in from left to right side

On my previous Mazda3 they were my front and rear auxiliary exhaust support members.
