It is more like you want vanilla and they are waiting for the delivery of vanilla to come to the ice cream shop and they are waiting on the folks that want chocolate since the vanilla has not arrived yet. Why make the folks wanting chocolate wait while the vanilla is somewhere else in the supply chain?
This is the best explanation of supply constraints that I have seen.

It's now going on eleven months since i ordered my Maverick Lariat through a small dealer in Kentucky. My reason for choosing this dealer is that this dealer has won numerous President's Award and they only sell vehicles at MSRP. I originally ordered a hybrid Maverick Lariat, but when we received information and switching to an ecoboost would increase my chances of getting built. Customer Service with Ford has given me all kinds of excuses, yet I see others who have ordered at the same time or later since September 16, 2022 have received their Maveric. I cannot believe how inept Ford Motor Company has been in getting this fiasco or an order system figured out. I've bought 8 new Ford vehicles since 2013 off the lot. I've been a loyal Ford customer. I have used Ford's service department at this one dealer I was using. I currently have a 2019 Edge Titanium and a 2020 Ford Escape SEL. I've decided that after this experience with Ford, I'll be going with a different brand. This is a text book case for a School of Business to review and see how Ford has been such a failure.
Do not feel alone. I placed my order September 2022 with a dealer here in Kentucky, also. I did get a build date finally . We will see!!! Way too long to have to wait !!

Utter Nonsense, Ford has exacerbated the supply chain issues with a poor ordering system combined with an arbitrary allocation system. Add in poor communication with the customers and this is exactly the kind of failure that should be studied in Business Schools.
The ordering system worked perfectly for me and many others and I got every communication I was supposed to get from Ford and the updates were 100% accurate. After the sale I got follow up communication. If you did not have this experience you or the dealer may have done something wrong.

What makes you think the allocation system is "arbitrary?' I don't think any of us know the parameters. Allocation systems are not new or unusual.

Yet Ford Motor Company has FULL Control over the Sticker Price from the Factory.
"Sticker price" has nothing to do with what the dealer charges which is completely between them and the buyer.

Have you even been reading these forums? The Allocation system is opaque and there are plenty of examples of how unfair it is. Defending Ford on this point won't get very far here. There are too many examples of how badly it is going.

I'd very much appreciate an education on what I'm doing wrong and what the dealer is doing wrong.

It may be opaque to you but it should not be to the dealers. The allocation system is between Ford and the dealers not to the eventual buyer.
