I picked up my Maverick one day shy of a week ago and thought I would offer a brief review. I owned a 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid in the past that I had ordered direct from Ford so have previous hybrid experience. Of course the wait this time was excruciating compared the 2009 when I had the order within 120 days. I think the Maverick has as similar style to that 2009 Escape Hybrid, but the Maverickā€™s upgraded technology really gives this vehicle a unique feel when driving.

The Maverick Hybrid is a fun truck to driveā€¦responsive yet smooth and just the right size for zipping around town. I have the Lariat Luxury trim so enjoy the decent sound system (a must for me). Fit and finish was fresh and clean ā€“ the bed features and tonneau are great and a breeze to use. I even had the chance to enjoy the sun roof and back window for a nice breeze while parked for a bit. The compact size has been a plus for me as it makes it easier to pull in and out of my garage compared to my previous ride.

I think one of the most remarkable aspects of the Ford Maverick Hybrid is the new eCVT. My old hybrid didnā€™t have the eCVT, so this was my first experience. It works great - but definitely changes the acceleration paradigm in my opinion. You expect an engine to rev to a crescendo then shift into the next gear, but that never happensā€¦when you look at the speedometer you see youā€™ve quickly achieved your intended speed without the rise and fall rev sound of traditional shifting. I think itā€™s really coolā€¦especially when youā€™re cruising in electric mode ā€“ smooth.

I really like the seats as they feel like they were designed for me specifically - I just fit perfect. Push button Start is good and the Touch Entry is my new baseline. I like the traditional, boxy truck styling/hood and appreciate the full hornā€¦I donā€™t like those ā€˜meep-meepā€™ horns that some small vehicles have. I did quick tests of the ACC with lane keeping ā€“ all really cool. I like the way it keeps distance automatically though Iā€™m still learning to trust. The lane keeping I think is best for highways as it doesnā€™t deal well with traffic circles or windy roads (performs best with well marked highway lines). I often use my cruise to deal with <35MPH speed limits as I have a tendency to accelerate and the Maverick cruise didnā€™t let me down..

And of course the mileage is phenomenal. On a recent trip to the store I noticed the trip meter indicated 47.9 MPG. According to My Maverick, Iā€™ve traveled 196 miles and can go another 373 miles before fueling (569 miles/tank). I still have Ā¾ of the initial tank of gas. Iā€™m happy the hybrid technology has improved since I owned my FEH in 2009, and even happier that I can do ā€œtruck stuffā€ with my Maverick.

One week in and Iā€™m a happy Maverick owner.

Thanks for posting! Great info. Interesting to read you frequently use your cruise control when driving 35 mph or less. If you use Adaptive Cruise Control in the city, can you just leave the acceleration and braking up to the ACC if you wanted to?

I'm not a fan of the default hybrid lariat wheels but they look sharp with your iconic silver Maverick! My alto-blue lariat will be equipped with them as well. I do not like the alto-blue/bright aluminum wheel combo much but don't plan on doing anything about it because I'm too cheap or practical or lazy or ____________?

You can leave the ACC on, just have to use the resume button once stopped (like at a stoplight). I'm okay with the wheels too and glad that it came with Michelin tires as I've had good experience with that brand over the years.

FYI.
Your 2009 Ford Escape hybrid may have 1st or 2nd Gen Ecvt also.
I thought all early Escape hybrids had the first generations of Ecvt transmissions.
I have watched the Weber videos and he points out how little the trannys have changed. The instructor even chuckles when Ford says they completely "redesigned" the tranny. He shows how the newest gens are nearly identical to the old.

I have the Lariat Hybrid without LUX and enjoy this truck very much. For me, its the perfect blend of truck features for my lifestyle. Not to much truck but all I need when I need it.
I love it and have zero complaints! Not having any previous Hybrid experience I'm very happy with my choice...

You know it probably had 1st gen eCVT - I ordered it during the 2009 Model redesign and it had Microsoft Sync 1st gen. I used the Escape as a daily driver from 2009 until 2015 when I was t-boned (totaled) and I will say that the version in my Maverick is considerably smoother as I feel no lurching through gears at all in Normal mode (haven't used other modes yet).

Iā€™ve had my Lariat w/Lux since Friday. The seamless transition from ice to electric and back is super smooth. Itā€™s much like our 2013 Prius C.

I have a little over 200 miles on it and have 3/4 of a tank left.

I like watching the EV coach. Speed up moderately to the desired speed then let off the gas then a light throttle and be in electric mode. Let off the pedal and it starts to charge the battery.

The only thing I wish it had was a picture of the battery like the Prius C so you can and see the state of charge by the led lines.

I tried Sport mode today for the first time because I forgot it had it, lol. It gives it a little more pep.

Love the auto high beam head lights. In dark area high beams come on. When it detects a lighted area or on coming traffic lowers back to low beams. Pretty cool.

Today when driving I called my son thru blu tooth and it automatically lowered the radio and put the a/c fan speed to a lower setting. Wasnā€™t expecting that.

Over really impressed and so happy with it. The wait was totally worth it.

Wait, what? My only other new car purchase was in 2008 and it was off-the-lot, but were there long waits for custom orders back then also? The car companies were in shambles at that time and couldn't sell a vehicle to save their life, wouldn't they have jumped on your custom order and pumped it out in a week?

Actually, I had ordered the 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid Limited in 2008 while the factory was being retooled for the 2009 model. That added a delay beyond the normal order/production time. Since I was shopping especially for the Hybrid Escape and the prior model year had already closed out, I found out I had to order online as there were none available on dealer lots. When it was delivered to the dealer, it was the first Hybrid they had seen and they asked me to let them drive it...so I ended up letting several associates take a spin.

My tonneau is the factory installed option from Ford.

Nice trucks MichaelKov and 06Warrior. You guys are making me jealous! I'm glad to hear y'all like your trucks as much as you do.

You know how when you have to go to the bathroom, and the closer you get to the toilet the worse you have to go, and you just barely make it in time. I just got my build date last week, and I'm starting to get THAT feeling. :) I imagine still another 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 months till I get mine.
