So I live in Tampa. Years ago, tried to buy a vehicle from Brandon. They wanted to play most of the games. How much is the vehicle? Look at the great financing deal we have for you! Oh, we gave your key to our used car manager to check out your trade in. We can't find him right now. Etc. Knowing this was their reputation, I made sure to leave my "spare key". Just got up and walked out, got in my old vehicle and left!My Ford Dealer is King Ford. 2nd best Ford dealer I’ve dealt with. The first best was
Brandon Ford in Tampa Fla.
Sounds like the dealer was out of trust with FMCC, a big NO-NOSilverthorne CO Ford dealer is closing siting Fords decision to "restructure it's network" and also the Summit County tax structure which resulted in buyers paying more than purchasing elsewhere. So now for warranty work on my 23 XLT AWD I get to go to Denver (70 miles) or Glenwood Springs (90 miles) all while negotiating I-70's ability to shut down in a heartbeat both summer and winter. Wondering how far other forum members have to go for warranty work. Sorry, no prize for the furthest but you get bragging rights. regards
update. I did buy the Maverick in Florida then moved here. I only used the dealer for warranty work/recalls as I have a local mechanic. Rumors have a Chevy or Toyota dealer taking the spot. All new Ford inventory was removed from the lot in the last 24 hours.
I also have 3 Ford Dealerships but within 20 miles of My House.I have 3 dealers within 15 miles of my house. The closest is 4 miles (where I bought the Mav) the middle is about 7 miles and only use them to pick up online accessories, and the furthest one is 15 miles away and I use them for warranty and service work.
Never really thought about how I use all 3![]()
Just heard on the radio last night the place I used to go for service was acquired by a mega dealershipI also have 3 Ford Dealerships but within 20 miles of My House.
(preamble- I don't live in silverthorne but I have vacationed in summit county 11 out of the past 13 years.)I'm not sure but I think the tax structure the OP is referring to is a county sales tax plus higher business taxes making it more expensive to buy there. The small city I moved from 2 years ago charged me business tax every year on furniture and fixtures. I did NO business in the city just lived there but because it was the mailing address for my LLC I had to pay every year. A friend who operated a physical location there said it added 10% to his prices that was passed onto customers. Plus the city had a city sales tax. He relocated his business 2 years ago just outside of the city limits and is saving money on operations. The Ford dealer in that city closed in 2010 for the same reason and moved out to the county where the taxes were much lower.
Cost of living in most of those mountain towns is absolutely insane. I don't think we will see a dealer apocalypse like 2008-2010 when manufacturers intentionally boxed out low volume dealers, but I can't imagine there is tons of money to be made at even medium volume dealers in very HCOL areas.Sounds to me like the owner is taking advantage of a buyout offer from Ford and cashing in
Unless you're in the middle of BFE there's no way a Ford dealer can't make ends meet while the next closest dealer is 70 miles away
