MPGs FAR below advertised and hype. Are you all telling the truth?

2000 miles on our 23 XLT Hybrid and it’s definitely mixed results on mileages. I have noticed the highway miles definitely drops the mpg into low to mid 30’s. Where as my city driving is high 30’s to low 40’s. My full tank ranges between 500 to 575 miles.

The way you drive it has a strong effect on the mileage and learning to be lighter on the gas pedal keeps you in the battery zone longer.

Overall I really like this mini truck!

24 Lariat hybrid. Only 878 miles on the odometer. Am now on my second tank of gas. My driving mix on the current tank is 70% stop and go around the 'hood and 30% freeway. As I pulled into the garage yesterday the display read 44.2 mpg. I added my trip miles and DTE miles and it projects 568 miles on this tank. When I sold my 22 EB Lariat FWD with 8800 miles on the odo, the onboard computer read 31+ mpg

I keep anal-retentive records. My 2022 XL Hybrid has 4158 miles. All but 750 of those miles have been city driving (one Interstate trip from Maryland to New Bern, NC). I have ONLY driven in Normal Mode. (On the trip, I probably should have tried the Eco Mode.) I fill at 3/4-tank, so I have had 18 refills for 116 gallons. So, here is the poop: Overall MPG 35.01, with the cumulative figures running from a low of 34.45 mpg to a high of 36.66 mpg. Individual MPG per tank fill-up will vary from refill to refill, and are not very indicative of true mileage. For example, my highest "refill MPG" was 40.11, but the very next refill MPG was 35.76. Lastly, my overall MPG figure excludes the 95 miles on the odometer before my first fill-up, so I can't get any more accurate than that.

BUT, I'll ask you folks this: SHOULD I BE DRIVING IN ECO MODE? Again, all of my driving is city.

I had a 2005 Baja, and loved it. Unfortunately it sacrificed itself saving my son’s life in a highway accident (rear ended in heavy traffic).
I suspect the cooler weather and driving style are hurting your mpg. I recommend reading some of the tutorials on how to drive a hybrid, it’s different than the Baja…
PS: I use slippery mode and get better mpg than when I was using eco mode.

I was also thinking about this a while ago too. I think most people on here go by the mpg number that appears while driving, and not filing up, drive, and fill up and calculate.

I'm getting around 24 in my AWD 4k. Actual calculations. I've adjusted the trucks guessing down, it was at least 4mpg too high.

I drive in a manner that usually has the truck shifting at 3-3.2k, pretty much always 10 over the limit, 75-80 on a freeway.

edit, better would be nice, but its the most fuel efficient vehicle I've owned outside of motorcyles. I had a truck that got 3 in city driving, I could get 7 on the freeway...

I had a 74 LeSabre convertible with the 455 engine that varied from 10 to 11 mpg depending upon how aggressively or conservatively I was driving. and DANG I miss that car!

All I know is I got 612 mpt on my first fill up without much thought on my driving. Now that I'm conscious of my driving. I'm estimating under 500 on this tank.g

My wife averages 37.5 and her first tank she got 483mpt.

MY running average over 5.6K miles is currently 45.6mpg. That's a combo of town and country driving. As others have said, ambient temperature has a lot to do with the results- especially the heater. Actual photo from a business round trip, combo of Interstate and US route 17.

Was that front wheel drive? I seem to remember Caddy had a 455 beast that was front wheel drive.

People forget that there are MORE THAN 50 varieties / flavors / blends / recipes for gasoline each with slightly different energy content and so each will get slightly different MPG.

Comparing state to state and region to region is not an apples to apples comparison.

California gas costs more for a variety of reasons, but it also gets really good MPG (coupled with generally mild weather). I will be first to say we pay a buck a gallon extra and are not getting that much more utility, but it IS BETTER than SOME gas out there.

Cheap gas in a mid-continent station may get lower MPG by nature.

Its a difficult comparison. Were almost to the end of December and temps here have been in the mid 70's. So probably can't compare what were seeing here in south central Texas to the northern parts of the country. Were still waiting on our first freeze.

I've had my XLT Hybrid for one year and have been very pleased with its performance and mpg. I average 42-46mpg. I drive conservatively and do not have a heavy foot. If I drive on I-20 from Dallas to Shreveport and keep it at 70mph, I'll average 39-40mpg, hills included. Stay in city driving and watch your driving style, you can average even higher. Watch your acceleration, speed, and keep it in '"electric" as much as possible and you'll be fine.

My hybrid hate the 10% ethanol gasoline, and also not the best on the highway.

If driven 70% in the city on regular 100% gasoline, I get 40 mpg.

I use 15% ethanol all the time and my mileage varies. During the summer I always use the AC and on a 35 mile trip, I have gotten 51 MPG using the ACC set at 57MPH. That is the highest trip mileage I have managed.
If I look at the lifetime mileage figure (which is probably 80%-90% highway) it is around 34MPG because sometimes I get as low as 25MPG, or even lower on short trips in town (where the hybrid is supposed to shine). A 40 mile trip on the Interstate at 77MPH yields about 37MPG.

I have measured mileage by doing the math at the pump and have found that the truck's mileage figures are pretty accurate. Measuring mileage by looking at the trip figures after each drive, can be frustrating becasue I wonder, what's different this time? It's the same road, similar weather, same speed. . . . . and xxMPG less/more than yesterday
While I think the truck's mileage should be more predictable, I like that I get twice the mileage of my old truck on a bad day, and on a good day, I get 3-4 times the mileage.

When the truck gets low on fuel, I'll try a tank of regular but I doubt I'll get better than 51.
