I'd like to find a diagram with measurements of a Maverick hybrid engine belly pan modified to give easy access to the oil drain plug and filter. I'd like to be able to change the oil without removing the 15 screw belly pan. Thanks

I have a 2010 Prius and just removed it completely right after purchasing. No noticeable issues as far as reduced MPG really noted.

You could always just cut the current one with a hole saw where needed.

This is supposed to be on the market any day. Looks good, but pricy.

👍👍👍
Even with the $300 price tag, because I do my own oil changes, I think I might spring for it.
Plus it is an aluminum skid plate.
Seeing as how I drive on many gravel roads in and around my properties it is added protection.
Money in exchange for making things easier for the old man.
I can't take the money with me, but I can use it to make my life easier.
I suppose, I could have somebody change the oil for me, but I have trust issues.
Thank you for posting.

The easiest option would be to leave the belly pan off and not put it back on.

With large enough holes added to the cover it may approximate leaving it off. Access covers would be a good solution.

Trade-offs of leaving the hairy cardboard belly pan off would be less cleanliness from road splash and a decrease in fuel mileage - but I don't know the magnitude of that decrease.

I don't find it too onerous to take off the pan every time and put it back on if you have a creeper and ramps. Use the tabs to hold it up in place instead of holding it. It's only a 1/2 a beer more for a relaxing at home oil change.

I never smoked or drink alcohol.
I tried beer and wine. Probably 40 years ago. I did not like the taste. I used to have a creeper
I have spinal stenosis and arthritis find it very hard to get up off of something that rolls around.
Once changed over to the skid plate, will enable me to take off four screws and two panels about the size of my hand, versus 15 screws and two panels the width of the truck. I also like the idea of an aluminum skid plate protection VS some type of fiberboard
underneath the truck, as I do drive gravel roads quite often getting to my properties.
Take care

I have the same trust issues so DIY is my motto too. I am reluctant to permanently remove the cover/shield [2024 hybrid].

I chuck a torx bit into my 90 degree Milwaukee 12v. drill, set it on low torque and zip off/on the fasteners.

I use "redneck ramps"; two 12" 2x6's criss crossed under each to give me 3" additional inches under the truck, gives a little slope to encourage oil drainage. I just lie on my back on the floor. Good exercise getting up, going down, twisting and stretching them muscles and joints. I do use a kneeling pad when I go down. Yes, I'm in your age bracket.

I think that even with a hole for the drain, initially oil would arc beyond the cut-out and make a mess.

Also, removing the cover allows me to inspect for leaks, brush debris off the cover, etc.

No worries @Glen Baker LLC - I was using the ISO9000 unit of time - 1 beer is 15 minutes, a case of 24 is 6h and quality suffers quickly. No alcohol required for an oil change.

Pretty much any replacement material would be better than the hairy cardboard for under carriage protection. Bonus if it comes with access panels in the right spot/size.

Some previous posts in 2022 about those using the "Fumoto" valve for ease in oil changing. Wonder if that, in combination of this new skid plate with access panels would be a feasible solution? Maybe someone can be the first beta tester when this skid plate is released for sale.

These are the measurements I used to create doors to access the filter and drain oil without removing the shield

https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/f...in-plug-location-on-hybrid.40091/#post-717534

this is the thread on how I did mine

https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/f...hield-to-access-oil-filter.46935/#post-821355

I now have 3d printed panels for it, but where the opening already was near where the drain plug is (large hole in the shield) I will need to close the hole in order to make the one panel work. The printed oil filter access panel works fine, and the doors I made from the shield itself with the latches worked fine also.

how hard can it be to undo 10 or so bolts? did it last weekend without even jacking up the car, just drove two wheels onto my sidewalk. $300 buys me 6 oil changes worth of synthetic and filters. thanks but no thanks

Maybe someone will come up with a similar product made out of plastic (Mabett) and it will be way less expensive.
