Hi, I have a need to use a mobility scooter or powered wheelchair.. And am looking for a lift or ramp to mount on the hitch of my Mav. Does anyone have any experience with these? Both installing and use?

I'm in the same position as you. My power chair will be here in about 3 weeks, I am currently thinking about getting a wheelchair ramp about 30" wide and 8' long. They will fold lengthwise to a width of 15" and again fold to a length of 4feet, to fit in the Maverick bed beside the chair/scooter.
Because it's a 30" rise in 8' the chair scooter could not go up under its own power. I'm thinking of getting a 12v winch and somehow attaching to the front of the bed. Ideas?? The mobility store a powered hoist, but $$$$.
I'm also open to other suggestions.

Sorry but no real suggestions. Being my condition no way could I maneuver it into the bed. Looks like I need a lift. I got a cheap scooter from Amazon works pretty well. But not enough power to drive up a ramp. My brother in law is a veteran, they got him a nice scooter and lift. One concern I have is due to the height of the hitch, I may not be able to lower the tailgate with just the lift on.

There is no easy solution for scooters. For regular chairs (no power) there is powered roof rack/container that will lift the chair and stow it. I use a mobility scooter that comes apart and I just put the pieces in the back of the truck and strap it. The lifts that are available of in bed, are too expensive for me and I don't want to restrict my use of the tailgate by putting a ramp on the hitch. The ramp on the hitch is a cheaper solution, but then you have to deal with that extra length when driving and parking the truck. Good luck with your search.

You could check with the Independent Living Center in your area as they often have expertise with mobility needs including those involving a vehicle. Sometimes they may have state funds to provide financial assistance (depending on income).

Thanks I share the same concerns as you. The scooter I have breaks down easily. But I still need help with it.

What about getting a winch hooked up in the bed? Could use that to get it up and down a ramp easier.

My wife has the Harmar lift with swing-away on her Subaru Crosstrek.
Not real cheap, but by far the best option. She uses it by herself.
Drive on the pad, an electric motor lifts and secures the scooter to the lift.
Also, the swing-away moves the lift away from the rear of her car, to allow her to get in the back of the car.
I would highly recommend a Harmar, sounds to me it would be exactly what you need.

There are lifts that are decently easy to install if you’re handy. And 12v at the back of the bed. Bruno makes lifts I used to install in trucks, cars, and vans as a part of my job. They are great for scooters and manual chairs. Power chairs are going to be a much bigger lift if available at all for you’re application.

Thanks, I used to be handy. But not anymore. I will check them out. Looking at tge cost for Bruno and Harmar, they are both very pricey. Dont think I can spend three to five K on this. Had no idea they are that costly. Thank You.
