For the high level Mavericks, I would have loved automatic variable windshield wipers. And my dream would be driver's side memory button that moves the seat and all of the mirrors back in their memorized locations after someone else has driven the truck. I spend a lot of time tweaking that stuff back into place in my car after it's been driven by someone who's not me.

I had not considered either of those but I think you make a very valid point. Having either or both of those features on a luxury package is not out of line. I have both options on two of my vehicles and I like it.

I get your point on the basic XL trim or even the XLT.. I think the basic trim entry level is one hell of a deal. However Ford is offering the Lariat trim levels and historically it has been a very upgraded trim level. However on the Lariat it seems to be a bit of Lariat lite. I still don't see where Ford is saying this is supposed to be a cheapo entry level truck. They are offering a cheap entry level version of this truck, but what it seems to me is they're trying to offer a new class of truck. Just like the Ranger you can get a stripped version a mid range or you can get one that's decked out.
resident pontiff here: Over the last 2 years Ford has been very public about their plans for the future, and 1 point was the decision to stop selling sedans and all cars (except Mustang) in the US by this year. They realized that would leave a gap in the entry level portfolio for people wanting a new car for under $20k- unless you consider EcoSport a "car". Another point was to fill the "white space" of a compact truck since all the other offerings have swollen in size and price to become "mid-size". Another point was to attract a younger demographic of buyers to pull into the Ford brand. You've probably noticed they've been selling hybrids for a few years and now going full electric as well with 1st offerings of Mach-E and Lightning F-150.

So yes, Ford has planned the Maverick as an entry level vehicle all along, but also appeals to other types of owners and drivers based on trim levels and options. Casting a wider net here. IMO it certainly isn't made to appeal directly to more affluent luxury brand owners who regularly buy Lexus, Jaguar, etc. and would find this vehicle lacking :devilish:

The engineering time for extra widgets is in fact very expensive
While true, I also suspect Ford's strategy here is to encouge those who want extra features to not just jump trim levels, but jump to Ranger or F150. They do not want to cannibalize sales. Especially in the most profitable segment(s) (trucks/, suv's). Just my thinking...

Really? Lexus and Jaguar folks will not find the Maverick compelling......
Very interesting. Are you sure about that? Should I ignore the Lexus SC430 the Lexus RX 350, Jaguar XJ Super, Jaguar F-Type and 67 XKE FHC that are currently sitting in my garage and driveway? Next you will suggest Corvette or F250 owners are not interested in the Maverick either... lol.
Btw, which trim level Maverick do you have on order? You do have one on order, right? This Lexus, Jaguar, Corvette, F250 owner has a Cactus Gray Lariat hybrid on order.
I am number 800 on the form list, What number are you?

Wireless apple carplay.
I really cannot understand why pretty all auto manufacturers are so slow to provide wireless Carplay and Android Auto. I know it sounds like a first world problem but it's really annoying to have to plug my phone in every time I get in the car just use Android Auto. Plus I can't always mount the phone in the most convenient place because the USB cord might be in the way.

My wife agrees with you! I'm old school enough that it doesn't matter to me much but my wife uses the hell out of that type of connectivity.

I just find these threads kind of funny. The Maverick is competing against ENTRY level SUVs and cars on price. My first car was a new 1999 Honda Civic CX. Entry level with no options back then meant stick, AM/FM radio, power nothing, no cruise and No A/C.
I’ll do you one better. I bought a 95 Civic DX brand new, no radio. I had to buy a factory antenna to install an aftermarket radio.

I can afford what I want, too. My maverick will be sitting in the garage next to my Audi. I do, however, understand the maverick (no matter how you option it) is an entry level vehicle. FWIW I ordered a lux XLT.

Maybe people might prefer the term “economically available”

My students are having too much leeway in language these days. Plus every argument seems to come down to The Sky is chartreuse vs not it cannot be because the grass is new. (One side says one thing the other side responds with something completely different including the subject and both miss what needs discussing)

Then you mark up the price for the custom widgets. But the fact that you make custom widgets should not and does not affect the price of your mass produced base widget. In this case the power adjustable passenger seat is not a one-off custom widgets. Ford puts such in many other vehicles including vehicles built on the same basic architecture at the same plant.
Anyway, I'm not buying into the idea Ford is trying to make a low price people's car available to everybody. Sure they're offering such a model, but it does not seem like they are making it readily available and they're not going to stock it on dealer lots.
I think it was actually a smart decision for the first runs to get them out with less manufacturing/infrastructure risk if they were to just drop the line 3 years down the road. Ford had no idea if this would take off like it did or end up being a flop. If it stays as big of a hit as early indications seem to indicate - then I'm betting a few model years down the road the options will open up. You might have options overload when you are trading in on your 2028 Ford Maverick.
