Wife and I really don't think of our Maverick as a "pickup" in the "truck" sense, but as a comfortable four door that happens to have a bed instead of a trunk or suv type area that means being able to carry larger loads than either a car or suv if needed and was designed to do so.
And the idea of "mini/small/medium" etc seems to be being discussed in size, not ability. I had in the late 1970's a mini/small(?) 1972 Datsun pickup just like the one in the picture attached, and that guy was NOT mini in or small in the load it could haul. That little guy could haul more than some 1/2 tons of its day! I had a cab high shell on it, and I would fill it to the brim with fire wood and it would do just fine! Think it was q 6 foot bed.

Seems larger than the Chrysler mini-vans we've owned and definitely larger that my old S-10.

Wife now thinks the Mav is too hard to park so I swapped her my Accord. I'm the lucky one.

The Maverick is actually a crossover between a, well, crossover, and a ute. Not the first time this has been done - the Honda Ridgeline did it first - but it’s the first one along with the Santa Cruz actually competing in the crossover space, where Honda wanted to compete in the mid-size pickup space.

I wouldn’t describe it as a “mini-truck” as much as I would describe it as a “midsize crossover ute.” Compared to the size of most CUVs, the Maverick is relatively average-sized.

I’m assuming most manufacturers saw this as a niche and Ford and Hyundai were the first to take a gamble on it. Hyundai erroneously expected to take more of the higher-end near-luxury CUV market, but Ford wisely saw it as a true “small truck” and priced and equipped it accordingly. Frankly, it’s amazing no one did this before.

all y'all big truckers can have your 16" wide armrest
Back in the day, those wide armrests made a convenient spot to strap a 12VDC TV/VCR combo on, for the kiddies sitting in the back sea to watch Barney movies,,,,,

My 2023 XLT, with 2.0, AWD. It’s a mini compared to my old F250 diesel, with its baddie turning radius.
And love the price.

It’s a late model truck that comfortably fits in a standard garage.

What vehicle isn’t much larger than its predecessor of 10-20 years ago? Nothing, that’s what.

This thread is a ridiculous. argument. This is 2023, not 1980-2000.
Many of us have garages that are 50-100 years old. I love my new Maverick, but it barely fits in my garage. The width is my main problem, not the length.

Yes, my 1995 Chevy S10 V6 single cab was smaller than my Mav. When I compare my Mav, I compare it to my 2006 GMC Canyon. Overall length: C=207; M=199. Bed: C=5'1" M=4'6" Wheelbase: C= 126" M=121", Weight within 100+ pounds. On the other hand, the 2016 Canyon I owned was almost the size of an F150 and [too] much bigger than my Mav. I am a first time Ford owner and the Mav checks all the right boxes.

The Maverick has long 120 in. wheel base which gives it great handling but larger turning radius. I'll take the handling myself. Course some people will complain if they are hung with a new rope.

Although it has grown on me as a reliable and solid ride over 16,000 miles, I had instant buyers remorse driving my bloated pig Maverick away from the dealership. The Maverick is a full 10 inches longer than my old Ranger, and has a stupidly large turning circle to match. Happily, I've moved out of the congested city to the countryside, where the Maverick is more in it's element.

We've had a ton of threads here where the "it's a bloated pig" crowd and the "it's a tiny truck" crowd send volleys of arrows at each other. It all depends on where you're coming from. If you're coming from a bigger truck, the Maverick is tiny. If you're coming from a smaller truck, the Maverick is bloated.
If you are coming from a motorcycle, it’s a monster truck. 😜

The thing that makes a size comparison difficult is that the Mav is four door with a really short bed. My Mav is 20 inches longer than the Tacoma it replaced. It's also 20 inches longer than my wife 2015 RAV4, so it seems like a big truck to me.

I came from the MINI Cooper I had for 18 years. Before that I had a nice little Ranger. I've had my Maverick for 10 days - I think I'm starting to get used to it now. :)

Agreed. Helps to fold at least one mirror.

Agreed. I drove a 2012 escape and to me the Maverick seems and feels bigger and heavier. It feels comfortable and I've almost gotten used to it.
