Mazda, Toyota, Subaru, would certainly eliminate all the consternation of people that order Mavericks - with them you get whatever they have on the lot. Or can possibly trade with another dealer but if their pickups become popular the dealers wouldn't trade. Then they could complain that the manufacturer doesn't send the right ones to their dealers.

Subaru does do custom orders, although they've tightened it up for some models post-pandemic.

I love the Mazda brand and wouldn't hesitate to buy a Mazda truck if it otherwise fits my criteria.

However...

I was impressed with how many times this article said things like ...

"Could" A $25,000 Compact Pickup Change Mazda's Fortunes...
The "potential" launch of a $25,000 compact pickup truck, "could" be the key...

Blah, blah, blah. I'm not a Ford fanboy but I love the truck I'm already driving and really don't care what Mazda, Toyota, Chev, or RAM "Might" do in the future.

Mazda could just team up with Ford again and rebadge the Maverick like they did with the Ranger back in the day. Might have been vise versa but they were the same truck.
I'd love a Mazda Maverick Hybrid clone because Mazda has much, much better sense of colors. I'd order a Soul Crystal Red Hybrid in a heartbeat!
