I took a look at inventory at Ford.com and found a lot of Mavericks. It seems however that many were customer orders that the customer plans to complete. Has anyone who order and picked up their Maverick spotted theirs at the Ford site? Apparently, if you see one on Ford.com you need to click the "Dealers Website" button and see if you get a 404 or find the vehicle for sale.
And even if you DO find it on the dealer's web site, it still may not mean a thing... Many (most?) dealer's web sites are just a plain vanilla copy of the standard setup Ford gives them, and that standard config works just like the Ford.com site - shows every truck inbound or on the lot, regardless of whether it's a customer order or not. Ironically, many of the local dealerships haven't even updated their "search" page to include the Maverick on the list of models for which you can search. Luckily, most of those also retain the standard "fill in the blank" search box you can use.

What I did when I was searching was to call each of those dealerships, and inquire about the Maverick on their web site. If (or mostly "when") they told me it was a customer's vehicle, I would ask them to take my info an let me know if they ever had a customer refuse delivery of one configured the way I wanted. It took a while, but I eventually got "the call" from a local dealer, and we made a deal on one.

Wrong, the Ridgeline is. Maybe not in your eyes, but in the market and design, it is.
Ridgeline is a midsize truck, not compact. Only 2 compact trucks on the market now. Although the Rivian R1T is close and even has a 4' 6" bed like the Maverick.

I'd have to disagree with that... The Ridgeline is considerably more expensive, gets considerably worse fuel mileage, and is sized much closer to the mid-sized Colorado / Canyon / Ranger / Tacoma / Frontier trucks.

The only "similarity" between the Maverick and Ridgeline is that they're both unibody vehicles based on SUV platforms rather than body-on-frame like other mid-size and full-size trucks.

My brother has a Ridgeline, and swears by it. It's a real nice truck. But when I told him the Maverick hybrid's price point and EPA fuel mileage estimates (and that people were beating that in real world driving), he stopped bugging me to give up on my Maverick quest, and just get a Ridgeline. Now he just wants a ride...

Honda Ridgeline starts at $38,800 MSRP
About the same price as my Maverick Lariat with options. By Design and Market, it's a direct competitor. Just a more expensive one.

People here never talk about trade-ins why is that?

My trade in had a $5k upwards market adjustment. (September 2022)

Net dealer mark-up of $1k to take my perfect truck off the lot the same day.

$1k premium (net) to have it in hand now with no waiting? No wondering. Hell ya it's worth it.

If you have no trade-in, then I guess you must sit and wait.

I thought most people had a trade in.
Based only on reading MTC it sounds like 1 in 1000 do!

Well then, fine if that's how you or anyone else feels about it, but I'm cross shopping these three vehicles, so they are in fact Direct Competitors going head to head for my purchase. That, is unrefutable. Also, the Fact that a person can actually Buy a new Santa Cruz or Ridgeline off the lot is food for thought.

FWIW,
My neighbor has a year old Ridgeline. The flat bed, bed trunk, interior space is all far better than maverick.

Down side is it gives 18 miles to the gallon in city.
That's not acceptable for me. My AWD mav gives 25 in city

What is it about Mid-Size vs. COMPACT truck you don't understand that keeps you defending your obviously uninformed argument?

Hey, if you're happy cross shopping inferior over-priced vehicles just because some are sitting lots, then knock yourself out! :ROFLMAO:

So, by that explanation, the guy in this forum who was cross-shopping (deciding between) a Honda Civic SI and the Maverick would get to claim that the Civic and Maverick are in fact "Direct Competitors" because they are going head-to-head for his purchase? In the immortal words of Arte Johnson, "Very interesting... But wrong..."

Actually, most dealer websites won't show a vehicle in a the search drop down if there is not one in inventory. That's how most of their sites are set up, so people don't do a search and pull up a donut.

All of the YMM data comes from JATO, or Chrome or some Cox company. Dealers don't put it in there, it's automatic once a vehicle comes out. So, if you don't see the YMM option in the drop down, most likely, the dealer doesn't have one.
Perhaps, but I've done many a search on dealer websites where there was no "Maverick" option in the pull-down, but when I typed it in the search box, one or more Mavericks showed up that were actually in stock and available for sale (always at a significant markup). Always confirmed by calling the dealer.

Not a direct competitor. You are comparing a fully optioned one to a Base model of a different class.

If Mavericks are accumulating at dealers, then what I have been thinking is probably true. Most of these dealers are going to get stuck with inventory people can't afford, and there are more repos coming to the market. This is an interesting read.
