A strange thing happened this evening. Drove the Maverick out to dinner. No issues. Drove back home. Parked in the driveway. No issues. Everything was lit up and running like normal. Closed the door and hit the remote to lock the truck, and no response. Strange I thought. Went back outside and tried the remote again. Still no response. Opened the door only for none of the interior lights to come on. Put the key in the ignition and turned it. No response. Door locks don't respond on the interior either. After 13 months and 11,500 miles suddenly the truck is completely dead. (And only hours after posted that I had no buyer's remorse and that the truck had exceeded all my expectations!)

Obviously calling Ford and the dealer tomorrow. Does Ford's roadside service cover towing? Is this sudden deadness an issue anyone else has encountered?

Thanks for any helpful and/or informative replies.

When was your Maverick built? Before mid-May 2022? If so it could a bad wire harness. If not, maybe just a bad 12v battery.
Built between November 2021 and January 2022.

Very good chance it's the wire harness from the charging system to the 12v battery then, plenty of reports on that issue with early builds.

Mine was built around the same time and has a bad powertrain control module. It’s probably the harness for you, but I’d love some company in Miseryburgh!

Many threads regarding this same issue....................

Try a jump station or charger using connections in the engine compartment to start.

Ah, yes. Recall reading about those harness problems earlier last year. Had assumed was beyond that potential issue after so long. Guessing that may not be the case after all.

Thanks. The other car in the driveway is a Ford Lightning so I think I’ll just let Ford get it towed Instead.

You are very lucky you were not stranded somewhere late night. We always carry a portable jump station now just in case.

Ours died at the lake, when we went to leave it was dark and Mav was dead, not good.

Hey there! I would like to see what I can do to assist with your Maverick's loss of power. To get started, can you please send over a private message with your VIN and the name/location of your local Ford dealer?

Check your battery terminals. Makes sure they are not loose (,if they move back and forth on the battery thermal posts it's too loose)

Car is at the dealer. Ford handled towing it 25 miles to my original dealer across the state line even though there is a Ford dealer here in town.

I find the whole electrical wiring issue a little strange. If a loose connection in the harness between the 12V and HEV battery is the cause, then why does jumping the truck work to get it started? I don’t believe the 12V was the least but depleted.

It's the connection between the 12V battery and the underhood 12V power delivery box that breaks. Without 12V it can't power up the computers and command the high-voltage contactor to close. So jumping it allows that to happen at which point the DC-DC converter (which the hybrid has instead of an alternator; steps down HV to LV) is able to output 12V power to keep things running.

Heard from the dealer. Apparently it was just the negative cable that came loose from the battery. Suppose i should’ve checked that myself, but lesson learned for next time, if there is one. Another reason I’m not fond of the battery being hidden inside the car where it is not easily accessible.
