Yes, I think they are expanding model lines- Mustang, Maverick. I would like to see a "sport-wagon"variant, Lobo aesthetics and handling.
If they do a 'sport-wagon', I'd like to see an 'old-school' split tailgate, so we can still haul long planks and 4x8 plywood.

I am planning on trading my 2024 hybrid lariat Maverick, to the point where I’m already accumulating the funds. Hope the maverick reasonably holds its value so the gap stays in the 15K $ range.

I’ve done preliminary research on getting a two way charging outlet that pairs with my solar system.

For me just too many +s , better garage fit & by then at 77 I’ll almost be ready to be done with trucks (LOL kidding myself) Oh and a frunk! 😁

Reading here I see ‘mid gate’ comments. Haven’t read that term in any Fathom info I’ve seen yet. What is it?
The term mid gate refers to the rear wall of the bed where it meets the cab having the ability to fold down so you can carry longer items. The rear seats fold down, then the mid gate folds down on top of them. Chevy offered the feature in the old Chevy Avalanche, and currently offers it in the Silverado EV. In the Silverado EV the rear glass gets removed, then the mid gate can be lowered so the entire rear wall of the cab is open. Ford submitted a patent where only the lower have folded and the rear glass stayed in place. We don't know if Ford is offering such a feature on the Fathom, but it is implied by some of the early marketing videos

Silverado EV pictured above could haul 12-foot lumber with no red flag; and 16-foot lumber with a red flag on the back of it.

But realistically, how many times a month do you haul 16-foot lumber?

What do you consider expensive gas?
I don’t know, I think over $5 a gallon just might make me slow down a little.
I purchased gas by the liter in what was then
West Germany.
It worked out at the time to roughly
$6 a US gallon.
No one complained, there were no hybrids to speak of.
It was during the ‘Regan Years’

I’m not wealthy by any means but my budget and my income means I don’t have to worry about gas prices.

I burn around $40-45 a week in 93 octane.
Hell I spend than that eating out with my wife in an average restaurant once a week.
I spend another $40 a week on lunches.
I’m good.

My driving in these Appalachian mountains in the Hybrid would save me what ?
$15 a week, I’d have to slow down some to save that, pfft.
Again in the big cities hybrids rule.
I’ll take the Zoom Zoom.

I never had kids. So I get to spend my coin my way.

The Explorer is pretty close to a wagon nowadays.
SUV’s are the final, current and successful remodel of the station wagon. It took decades for US automakers to figure out how to sell station wagons.

I found this amusing :
S U V, Sport Utility Vehicle.
S U V, Stupid Useless Vehicle.

I’ve had only three in my life. A 2021 Bronco Sport with a minimal 190 hp 3 banger.

A 1996 Jeep Cherokee, built before Dodge ruined the brand, inline 4.0 liter 6 cylinder, powerful, very.
We got 394,000 trouble free miles out of that AMC straight six before the rear main let go due to excessive crank bearing wear than allowed the crank to vibrate to the point it killed the main seal,

And a 2004 Escape with a 3.0 V-6 that wouldn’t get out of its own way.
They all drove similarly,
they all had adequate power
I wanted a bit more that adequate, like the jeep.

The Ecoboost did the trick for me.

Sometimes the first MY are the best.

The manufacturer has more to lose.
The manufacturer has more to prove.
A screw up in year one could doom the whole lineup, reputation wise.

So first year sometimes get better quality before they start cutting corners.

I'll take a late build in year one please.
My friends and family are always asking me which car should I buy after 50 years in the business they think am a expert? I always say never buy a first-year model, what do I do, I order a Maverick back in 21 one of the first, when people used to stop me on the road and ask what is that or take photos at stop lights, when you wouldn't see a maverick for weeks on the road, well am on #3 now.
Had no real problems with any of them, radio issues on #1, few warning lights on #2 and day/ night sensor on dash on #3, washer fluid warning on ALL of them, and few recalls on #1 #2 nothing serious. It fits in my very narrow driveway with room to walk by, its options are impressive, its comfortable and roomie for a small vehicle that's easy to park and has a bed for local Home Depot runs, its not perfect no vehicle is theres always something that everyone wants in a vehicle you cant get, like a real shifter instead of that stupid dial, Ive learned to live with.
My new Lobo is fun to drive I use sport mode a lot going to the grocery store or the park to walk the dog, that's my exciting life now at 75 and retired.

I said the manufacturers figured out calling something like the Ford Ecosport a SUV sounded much better to the public than a Crumb Cruncher Carrier. The old Jeep CJ5 and 7, Cherokee, International Scout, original Bronco, Blazer, Suburbans were true sport utility vehicles. growing up the only Suburbans I saw were for a road contractor and they were 4x4 mud splattered vehicles with seats for 4 to 5 only. They were work vehicles. Today's SUVs are glorified station wagons without the rear facing seat. In the 80s I drove a Mercury Colony Park stattion wagon in metallic pea with wood grain sides. I hauled 16' 2x10s by resting 1 end on the dash, lowering the power window in the tailgate, and having about 2' hanging out. Then Operation Desert Storm came along and the Navy put it back into service as an aircraft carrier 😂 . Actually the frame rusted out so bad there was nothing to attach the gas tank to after it fell out.

It could be anything long. I've used the sliding rear window on my Maverick multiple times to carry boards too long to fit in the bed. A full opening mid gate with a bed cap would make a great camping situation also.

Plus I got three years more enjoyment out of it and 1.9%(36) 2.9%(48) 3.9% (60) financing available at the time.
Yeah, the financing and the fact that they were able to be sold used for more than new ones due to the wait time was something that I missed out on.

Saying you got three "more" years is a bit irrelevant though. I didn't realize our clocks started at the same time. Who is to say that I can't keep mine three "more" years longer than yourself? If anything, I "saved" three years of use on mine by not buying one until recently.

Not sure your point is a point.
More of a preference.

No major issues with the 2022's.
Exactly; preference more than anything. I've bought many pre-refresh Fords and to your credit, much like the Maverick, only one thing made me be like, "I'm trading this thing in to get the refreshed model". More like, "Man, if I waited then I could've gotten a couple nicer odds 'n ends."

That one thing was when I bought a '99 F-150 Super Cab and the SuperCrew came out the next year. I seriously considering trading it in, but kept the Super Cab and bought an '01 F-150 Super Cab some years later.

Had an AWD hybrid variant of the Maverick not came out with the refresh then I would've been pretty disappointed for holding out!

I have ability to drive a Maverick 2022 to infinity (or until I die whichever comes first).

You have the ability to do the same minus 3 years.

🤷🏻‍♂️

If he lives 5 years longer than you then he will get 2 more years out of his Maverick. You might have the ability to drive the Maverick to infinity but the Maverick doesn't have the ability. It will rust away long before a thousand years 😜
