Maverick tailgate weight limit lbs - half and down positions

Even with kids it creaks. I won't trust a full grown adult to sit on it!

And even if it's true about the 500lbs weight limit, the truck feels light weight that it squats with a slight weight added to the tailgate

On a side note, anyone know the weight limit of the hard top roll tonneau cover?

Me & my best friend sat on my open tailgate at a car show, between the 2 of us that's 475lbs, it felt solid & didn't make any sounds.

Yeah, and Im pretty sure the 400 and 500 limit are for while the truck is in motion, so even more when just sitting there

I sit on it all the time bro. Never any issues.

Thanks for posting this. I plan/hope to haul my mower soon as well. I think my mower is heavier than a 42" Craftsman. But it's good to know somebody has had success doing this.

When hauling cargo using the tailgate
middle position, make sure the load is
evenly distributed and supported using the
support locations in the pickup bed. See
Locating the Pickup Bed Slots (page
264).
Note: Secure all cargo.
Note: The maximum load capacity for the
middle position is 500 lb (226 kg) evenly
distributed to the 2 pickup box wheelhouse
locations and the tailgate.

We used the tailgate as a diving board and not an issue.

Here is something from the 2024 Maverick manual. 500 lb for the 'middle position'.

Fully down, 500 pounds, cool, I'd not concern myself.

As for half down, on those two cables, 400 pounds becomes 600 when you hit a bump.
I'd draw that back to no more than 250 pounds In my truck.

Engineers are not always right, on everything. I bet they did not even consider a bump or pot hole.
