If you have a first-year model, better hang onto it. Everyone knows about the "first year mystique". The value of these models always skyrockets.

Right? ;)
My 2022 is rare. It's the only Velocity Blue one built between 4:01 and 4:52 PM on October 11th, 2021. 😉

Question - Do you think the Maverick will hold its value down the road? I own a 23 Hybrid with currently 20k miles on it and I have only owned it for 8 months. We put on a lot of highway miles. My concern is that in 2-4 years i will have 60-100K miles and the value of the maverick will depreciate greatly. Should I be concerned with this?

My maverick was $30K out the door and I'm trying to make the best investment on a car that will hold its value. The Maverick is unknown.
At 100k miles I would expect the Mav XL/XLT to be worth roughly $16k-$17k private party used if otherwise in good condition. Lariat maybe another $2000-$3000. 100,000 miles is a lot of miles.

Cars used to depreciate more linearly with age, what I've seen (even pre-covid) is at roughly half lifespan (100,000 miles) they are worth about 60% of new retail. Used to be in the first year the value would drop by at least 30%-35%. So, a new Maverick @ $27,000 would be $18,000 after three years with ~40,000 miles on it.

Assuming Ford will increase the cost YOY, I'd expect an entry level Maverick to price out around $28,000 at dealers in 2026-2027ish.

I would suspect the Maverick will be one of the least depreciating vehicles over the next few years, for those on the 2022-2023 price plan who bought XL or XLT trims with minimal adds. If you bought a FWD Ecoboost or bought either model without the applicable tow package (2k/4k), you'll take a bigger hit.

I've never bought a new car thinking it will make me money. I keep them in good condition, keep service records, and keep an eye on the miles. Every used car I've sold, I got a decent/good offer.

Most of you are missing the mark on your responses.. obviously the Mav isn't an investment.
He's asking how well it'll hold its value COMPARED to other cars out there.
In general, we all know most Toyotas hold their value better than most Nissans.
We also know that the Mav hold its value well today (mostly due to production constraints.)

In the long run, I do think the Mav will hold its value better than average because:
1. It's price is currently going up every year, indicating it was priced too low initially
2. The small truck market only has two other competitors, both of which are higher priced and don't have that classic truck look or truck brand history.
3. While production is ramping up, demand is still high and should continue to grow as fuel prices go up

A car is transportation not typically an investment

I didn't miss it. :)

I am not sure what two competitors you could be referring to as the Ridgeline is the cost, size and weight of midsize truck, it's just an outlier because it is also unibody and fwd base + awd option.

There's really just the Santa Cruz which their turbo awd model is relatively close to a Maverick ecoboost awd. It's reasonable to compare. The Maverick should hold value better because Hyundai torpedoes their own resale value with their non-transferable 10yr/100k mi warranty. (I assume that's a thing in Canada. Definitely is in the USA.)

There is zero direct competition for the Maverick hybrid, that's why I mentioned the RAV4 and CR-V hybrids, and there are more.

Thank you for all your responses!! Greatly appreciate the insights!

YES, I am fully aware the Maverick will not make me money or be worth full purchase price when I decide to sell :) but some of you knew what I was asking!

The Maverick has been the first brand new car I have purchased, so I am trying to gauge the estimated depreciation of a several year-old car with "high miles". I am not a car expert, but I do know that Ford has cut some corners to keep the Maverick cost so low. Although, I do not think this is the case, but will people look at the Maverick as a cheap budget low end vehicle.
Or will people be interested in buying a used Maverick that has 100K miles on it because it has a ton of life left?? Only time will tell I guess, in this crazy used car market...

The number of factors that determine a used car (truck) value are vast & variable. Much like the stock market, it's difficult to "time". We've been in a very unusual used vehicle market for the past 4 years or so, so recent data varies wildly.

*Generally*, the depreciation hit lessons with each passing year of ownership, but even that observation was all over the map these past few years.

I suppose the take-away is, you just have to monitor the market as you go, and choose when to make a move when current conditions favor your plan, whatever that may be.

Right? ;)
Nice engine compartment! Did you make the engine cover yourself? I assume you bought the intake system.

The intake is from aFe, the cover is from JCR Offroad. Thanks!
You didn't happen to get the skid plate from JCR Offroad did you?

I think the Maverick will have a better resale than a lot of used cars and trucks. Trucks always have a better resale and Mavericks are getting a good reputation.

Reading most of the comments here. We believe because is a truck it will hold its value? This is usually true. The biggest factor that help keep the value is DEMAND for it. Right now there is a huge demand. But with recalls this may hurt. Individual value of your vehicle is based on Miles, condition and Options the vehicle has. Believe it or not OEM options make sense to buy. The more options the better chance you have something that the buyer wants. Educated buyers want safety features. So back to condition? Keep the Truck looking new. Take the time to care for your truck. Protect the exterior with a good Ceramic wax!

The higher the trim the less the value will hold.
