Did another event over the weekend.

First run was fine, everything worked as expected. Then on the second run, turning off stabilty was a little odd. By the second or third corner, I could definitely tell stability was still on as it won't allow full throttle with much steering angle. I thought oh well, that was just learning the course.

But before the third run, there were multiple error messages on the dash about "hill hold not available", "pre collision braking not available" "advancetrak not available", etc. No amount of turning it off and back on again did anything. But it seemed to drive fine, so what the heck, let's finish out the day. The last run was a few tenths quicker than run 1, so apparently, I was able to drive around the issue to some degree.

Conditions........It was in the low 90's, very sunny, and only a light breeze. So fairly hot. I had all 4 windows down all day. I worked the first group, so the truck sat with the hood up all morning, and the engine/trans was nearly ambient when the second run group was called up.

So did a bunch of socializing afterwards, packed up and left. About 1 mile from the event the messages stopped. I tried the drive modes and they worked, and was able to turn off stability.

Afterwards I put all this info into google AI and it came up with two or three possibilities.
1. Camera in the windshield over heated.
2. The Image Processing Module A either overheated, or
3. became overwhelmed from the course. Apparently the IPMA can be confused and overwhelmed by lots of stripes and objects the camera sees, and has to decide whether or not they are hazards.

If I was to bet, I'd bet on #1. It was hot and the issue resolved itself quickly with driving with the AC on. Maybe it was #2 for the same reasons. I don't think it was #3 since this was the 7th event this year.

Picked up a Dragy Pro to play with. It showed consistent 0.89-0.90 g's lateral (0.91 peak) and braking, and 0.58 acceleration. The night before the Lobo demonstrated multiple 6.4x second 0-60mph times, with a best of 6.41.

On a different note, that was the last autocross with the OEM tires. Pilot Sport 4's are going on tomorrow. Sunday's event will be fun!

Bicycle tires, especially Michelins, are always slippery at first due to wax used in the “molding” process. Not sure about automotive tires though. Have fun!!

Great write-up! Maybe the new cooldown procedure is to idle the truck with the A/C on before a run, to chill the electronics 😄

I'll assume you're putting on Pilot Sport 4S? They're great in all conditions, you'll definitely have fun. They're awesome in the rain too

I'd do a 1 hour highway drive as soon as you put them on, to give them an initial heat cycle. Then let em rest overnight or more. On something with McPhersons and mild alignment, it'll make them more resistant to chunking the outer tread blocks when running full depth

I wish they were PS4S's. Just the regular PS4's. Basically the only choice in a summer tire in the stock size. I didn't want to go to 245/50's since I'm stuck to the stock 7.5" wide wheels for a while, and a 245 on a 7.5 would be squirmy.

I'll drive on them a bit before Sunday's event to do a mild heat cycle and scrub them in a bit. I do have about 2.3 degrees of neg camber in the front (camber bolts maxed out).

I've mostly been meeting my goal of having a pax ranking better than the raw time ranking, even on the oem tires, so having decent tires should help that a bunch. Our courses are typically 50-65 seconds and I'm hoping for a 3 second improvement.

It seems strange that the camera module could overheat. Low 90s with the windows down isn't exactly extreme conditions. If that were the case, Mavericks in Phoenix would be basically undrivable this time of year 😄

When you did the 0-60 runs, I assume that was in Lobo mode? Did you power brake? These trucks seem to be pretty lazy off the line without building a little boost first.

Agreed. Maybe it was a combination of things.

Yes, the 0-60's were in Lobo with a brief power brake. Maybe a second at 1/2 throttle then let off the brake just after the throttle is matted. (I bracket raced for ~10 years with street / No-E cars)

When doing straight line runs, is your 2-3 shift in Lobo mode kind of trash sometimes? In my truck, probably 75% or more of the time, it feels like it slams the throttle shut when still in 2nd, then shifts to 3rd, making for a very jerky and inefficient shift. The 1-2 shift and 3-4 shifts are crisp and beautiful. It oddly never does this when accelerating out of a turn or when just getting into the throttle from roll.

Yes, exactly as you describe.

It reminds me of someone that doesn't know how to shift a manual, they lift off the gas before pushing in the clutch.

This is more or less exactly how I described it to my dealer's service manager.

They, of course, treated me like I didn't know what I was talking about and claimed they "couldn't recreate the issue". Your experience affirms my suspicion that it's likely a programming issue unique to the Lobo that currently has no fix and my dealer doesn't want to open that can of worms.

It's not like the truck is undrivable, it's just frustrating.
