It’s with a heavy heart I’m posting that my Maverick is totaled.
I was t-boned yesterday on the way home from work by a guy going 70 that ran a red light, he struck my front driver fender and door.
Thank god this little truck is the perfect height and very safe or I wouldn’t have walked away with only a few bruises.
Could’ve been a lot worse and I’m thanking god and Fords safety features in the Maverick that I’m still here.

Amazing pics. The Maverick must be strong and well built. The car is really bad and your truck not as much. So sorry but I suspect you'll get a new one. Glad you are alright.

I'll pile on and also say congrats on living and staying out of the hospital. I'm impressed with the side impact protection of the Maverick/Ranchero! Maybe I'll stop complaining about how it's wider on the outside but narrower on the inside than the old pre-2000 Tacomas I had. there's a reason.

Just curious - did you see how much rubber the guy left on the road before he hit you? It's a good indication of when he realized he f'd up and how fast he was going.
When I was a kid I turned in front of a truck I didn't see due to the low angle sun. The cop let me go without a ticket and the guy in the truck started bitching about it. The cop got pissed and said something like "you see how much rubber you laid when you hit the brakes". When the guy nodded the cop said "well if you were going the speed limit you would have stopped before you hit him. "
That was 50 years ago - my first and only wreck (knock on wood)

I'm beginning to think people all over are nuts. It has gotten to the point that when my light turns green, I take the time to look both ways to make sure everyone will stop before I proceed. I've witnessed too many red light runners to not do that.

Glad your okay.

I assume the side airbags went off? I was never a fan of front bags because I always felt if you use the seat belt front bags were not needed.

BUT side bags from watching those test crash videos seem like a great idea. Was it the side bags that kept you from hitting the side window? Just curous how effective they were in keeping your injuries lower?

Yes the side airbags deployed and definitely kept my head from impacting the window and pillar, without them I’m sure I would have been a lot worse off

i didn’t pay much attention to how much rubber was on the road in the moment due to having a concussion and in shock

I think that the hit was not at 70mph, both vehicles would have been obliterated in a T-bone incident at that speed due to how much more energy is involved than even 10 or 15 slower. That looks much more like a 35-40 mph impact even if they started at 70MPH because braking happens before most impacts. Still, impressive showing for the Maverick and yes, this is the kind of thing we bring up whenever someone complains about how easily they break... it's for a good reason!
Yeah I’m not to sure the exact speed, 70 is what he said to the cops and wrote on the report for what he was going, I’m sure with the braking he was probably slower, I do know that there was no time to react and I didn’t see him until I was being helped out of the truck
