I have a true unicorn. A Lariat with all of the top features that doesn't come with a spray-in bedliner or remote start already due to the MY23 being the only model year to not have that.

I might see if I can find a "Lariat UnLuxury" sticker for it.

It is looking like anyone who gets their hands on a '23 Maverick Tremor in Avalanche Grey will have one of a rare breed. Looks like Avalanche is gone for '24.

It’s not an investment. It’s a depreciating asset.
Most older vehicles go up in value, it just takes 30 years, and keeping them clean and low mileage. Many cars and trucks from the 80's/90's I thought wound never be collectable are now.

How about some missed opportunities?
I bought a 1969 Honda CB750 when I got home from Vietnam. I kept it for about 10 years then traded it in for $900. Do you know what a "Sandcast" version like I had goes for today?
In the early 1990s a guy I worked with offered me his dusty, 1965 427 Corvette convertible, complete with flat tires, for $5000. It was green with a tan/brown interior. It sat in the corner of the hangar where I worked as a mechanic. I saw him again in 2005 and he and I both were sorry about the car. He for selling it cheap, and me for not buying it.

I remember when the Mustang was introduced as an affordable sports car for the masses and quickly became a icon that has lasted to this day. The Maverick is quickly following it as an icon for trucks of which the other big mfg's will be trying to get in on the game like they did on the Mustang. I'd be really careful with some of the custom work on the early (22-23) years as some day they might be collector items if in the original condition. Just adding my 2 cents to the Maverick picture.
Your Maverick was delivered to you with rust on the underbody. Mavericks produced today on 10 year vehicles.

Nice so my 22 will hold its value and I can trade it in when they refresh it next year!

Sounds like a Chevy man .......
HA, well in all my many years I've owned 2-3 GM products, other than that, like 20 ford products. I will say I love my little maverick truck, but i think your mind is not 100% sound if you think it's going to be iconic, pure fantasy land.

The Maverick will never be an automotive icon, any more than the last generation Ranger - of which I owned two. It is a cheap automotive appliance that will please people like us who are looking for a cheap trucklet.

The Tacoma is an icon. The F150 is an icon. The Maverick is not and probably never will be an icon. Come on folks - it is a stretched Escape SUV with the back chopped off.

[This is a transcript from a Mecum Auto Auction segment from the not-too-distant future, the on-air voice speaking in hushed tones as 2 white gloved Mecum assistants push a 2022 Hybrid Lariat Lux onto the staging area...]

"Many in the industry believe this Maverick could be THE mythical Unicorn, as this Maverick was manufactured during The Pandemic of the '20's, is a mint example of a 1st Year model and is loaded with FoMoCo factory accessories such as Spray In Bed liner, hard roll up tonneau, full size spare, Moon roof, power rear window, 4-pin tow hitch and floor liners. It's virtually an untouched example of the OEM model, except for the Owner applied flat black vinyl lettering on the tailgate.

These accessories are proof the Original Owner stayed firm to receive the truck "as ordered" and not wilt in the face of 'constraints' and 'supply chain issues' or remove items with the hope (never confirmed to be valid) that removal equated to expedited production.

The glove box contains the Hermosillo, MX manufacturer Monroney Label, reflecting an MSRP purchase and the very rare hard copy of the Owners Manual.

The Reserve is off, the argument continues as to whether this is an iconic vehicle or an anomaly that existed as the Auto Industry transitioned to EV."

Next up is a 'Barn Find' from last century: a low miles AMC Pacer...

It fills a missing niche and gets a lot of press due to ordering restraints and time will tell plus it gets a lot of various responses. lol

It may become an icon in the same way that the Pinto, Chevette or Cimmaron are icon -- a notable thing of their time. Notable, but not something that will ever command any significant value. It's not like we're going to see the maverick develop a world-beating racing heritage or place in our culture like the Mustang.

And then there's the desirability factor. 30 years from now a buyer with stupid money to spend on collectables won't likely be at Barrett-Jackson hoping to see an Area 51 Maverick cross the block -- at that point we'll be looking at 100 years of noteworthy and collectable ICE vehicles. People will be buying the things that were on the posters on their childhood bedroom walls. Ironically, I could see the current Bronco being one of them. But not the Maverick.
