Hi everybody, had my first flat tire, so I lifted the maverick up a bit so I could turn the wheel and see where the puncture was, but the wheel doesn't turn, and now I'm thinking I didn't turn it hard enough, but I took off the wheel and found a nail and repaired it.

Question is, is there a way to disenage the drive from the wheel so I can easily turn the wheel while it's mounted ?

Did you have the transmission in neutral? Was the parking brake on?

Turned on the car, put in Neutral and turn off the car, goes back to Park mode, parking brake was off, I put a wheel chock on the opposite wheel for safety.

The good O'l days of regular shifting made this easy.

Was the flat in front or in the back? Is your truck AWD?

As far as getting it into neutral…

Always look in the user manual.

Additionally, ensure that the parking brake is not set. If you are parked on an incline at all, the truck activates the parking brake automatically.

If you put the Maverick in “neutral tow” the wheels will freely turn as well whether or not the door is open or closed

You would think that #3 would actually be #1....or, how do you bring your vehicle to a complete stop without the vehicle being "powered on"....

If you don't lift both front tires you can't turn the wheel without the power steering running. I've had mine on the lift. Wheels turn very easy with both wheels off the ground. Intrestingly this vehicle does not have a steering wheel lock.

The last vehicle that we own that had a locking steering wheel was my wife's 2009 Escape.
As it turns out.
Auto manufacturers gradually phased out using steering wheel locks about 15 years ago, coinciding with the rise of electric power steering and pushbutton ignitions. While steering wheel locks were once a standard safety feature, newer technologies like chip keys and modern security systems made them less necessary.

In any case, i tried it today and the procedure works, no need to lift both sides as one person suggested. I lifted just the front left and followed the procedure. Just one thing, if you have the hood up , or don't have the seat belts on, those alerts will clutter the screen and you might miss the "instructional message" which states to press L on the drive shift rotary knob.

I was in the Foothills the other day.
I put the Maverick in park heading up a hill it never automatically engaged the parking brake. I tried it going down the hill same result no automatic parking brake applied.
I even shut the engine down to see if that made a difference, it didn't
In the photo you can see, I'm in park.
No parking brake automatically engaged, as a matter of fact when I took my foot off the brake pedal it rolled back onto the parking paw. Same thing happened heading down the hill.

I don't know what the official grade% is of this hill but it's pretty steep.

It does need to be a pretty decent incline.
The Hill Start Assist doesn't need to be so serious.

I've been looking for scan PIDs related to tilt, found a few that might be right.
I wanted to test what those angle were.

The hill start assist only holds for about a second or two before it releases. I thought it held longer than that. Naturally, there's no Hill start assist when you're heading down a hill.
