Just wait until you learn about pulse and glide (prevent Regen and effectively have something like neutral). will take a while to get a feel for that transition point. Effectively, you don't want power flowing in either direction. I actually like to accelerate moderately hard about 5mlh over target speed and then "coast" about 5 below.
The incredible aerodynamics on Prius let you coast for much longer time than you accelerate, thus the improved mpg. Prius won't turn off ICE over 46mph though, but hopeful the maverick can go higher!
Can't wait to start competing with you all over fuel economy numbers 😉
For those that are interested...

Who the F$5& is going to drive like this.... Way to much effort.
Actually it becomes complete muscle memory....kids today would make that comment about a stick shift...but once you got the hang of that....how often did it even cross your mind?

You are just not the way to competitive kind. Any time I drive someone else’s car I try and get better mileage than they get, just because. Heck I try and beat my own self. Now I do it normally with lite traffic, but there are actual track competitions on how far can you drive on a track with x fuel in Y vehicle

Most of us are in too much of a hurry to accelerate to 37 mph and then coast to 20 mph then repeat. Especially if there is someone behind you.

Yeah, definitely depends are what you are doing and where you are going. I also don't want to inconvenience other drivers. But yeah, I find I naturally do in it when "it's right". I could get 63mpg on the way to work in my gen 3 Prius (which gets 50 normally). To me it was a bit of a game but agree it's not for everyone. Sorry to hijack thread! 🙏

I used to “rush and rush until life’s no fun” then the past 2 years have taught me “all you gotta do is live” [well] “and die. … as the great bards Rodger and Randy stated.

In fairness, there are three modes to PnG.
- pulse using the engine to gain speed, climb hills (slowly to charge the HVB)
- glide using EV to nearly maintain speed, mostly on flat or downhill terrain
- coast using neither whenever possible

In this system, "coast" will require throttle. The Escape's ECO mode needs even more to coast at 0-0-0 (regen/EV/ICE). I give myself a +/- 1 toelrance.
L gives you speed by throttle position. Add throttle and you speed up, lift and you'll slow down strongly.

Then do a 5 mph speed change. As noted, this becomes habit, something to do while driving. The only thing that bothers people is not rabbiting from stop lights. They ride your bumper, then fall way back as you continue to accelerate.

We have a vehicle with a cvt the shifter has a position for drive and a position below drive for low.
So you can down shift to slow the vehicle without using the brakes.
