Heated Steering Wheel Seems to Turn On and Off

Ford deleted the heated wipers on the ‘24 models. So this safety thinking was not continued.

Heating the windshield bottom with an element? Is that visible or not?

My apologies if this is posted before but I couldn't find anything with a search...

Anyone else have the lux package and notice their heated wheel seems to turn off and heat back up periodically? Mine sort of fades in and out (dash button stays lit). Is this a safety feature? An error? It doesn't seem to be linked to auto start/stop.

Part of that is your body adjusting to warm temperature. Just like stepping into a warm shower, when you first step in the water seems real warm then after a short time your body adjusts and it doesn’t seem so warm. And if the heated steering wheel didn’t cycle on and off it would eventually get too hot to hold.

My '24 heated steering wheel also cycles hi/low. Hi is quite warm, more so than other vehicles I've driven with a heated sw. My arthritis appreciates the heat lol.

It's most visible on the passenger side lower corner. Some have mistaken it for a crack running across the glass.

The mirrors are just automatic. They turn on when starting normally too, and not even at particularly cold temps; <50F or thereabouts.

If you have the wiper defrost it comes on with the mirrors.

Seed starting mats are much more efficient and a 10x20" will pull about 22 watts they are limited to 10-20°F above ambient. They are not bright () and if you stack two of them they will continue to operate at max wattage thinking they have to be warmer than their neighbor. I have never tried one plugged into a modified sine wave inverter.

Mine seems to get super hot and stay hot. So Idc if people say it’s normal, mine just isn’t getting hot now like it’s turned off. It was getting hot, hot to the point I would turn it off. Now that it’s cold out and I want to leave it on longer it seems like it’s shut off even though button is on. Seats don’t act like this.

Per the manual pretty much everything described is normal.

SWITCHING THE HEATED STEERING WHEEL ON AND OFF (IF EQUIPPED)
To activate the heated steering E256621 wheel, press the button on the climate control unit. An indicator on the button illuminates when the heated steering wheel is on.
Note: The engine must be running to use this feature.
Note: A sensor regulates the temperature of the steering wheel.
Note: The heated steering wheel may remain on after remote starting your vehicle, depending on the remote start settings. It may also turn on when you start your vehicle if it was on the last time the engine was switched off.

When the mirrors are being heated, the wipers are also being heated. safety feature. One of the many things Ford thought about.

‘…the wipers are also being heated.’ Yet another feature Ford dropped in 2024.
