I tried a search here and a Google search as well. Nothing comes up in this forum but it does in a general Google search. This is regarding my 2023 Lariat and the B&O audio. The incident just this afternoon. Entered the truck to move it into the garage after rinsing bugs from the front. My phone was going through the wireless Carplay connection process and out of the blue came an extremely loud rapid banging, or popping sound from the speaker(s). It sounded for all the world like a machine gun being fired in the cabin. Turned the audio off and the sound reduced in volume but it kept up a steady crack, crack, crack sound, mostly noticeable from the front center speaker. It continued after I deleted the phone connection, killed the ignition with the start button and even opened the door. It just kept right on snapping and ticking away. I went in the house to do a search but I thought I should check again to be sure I didn't imagine it. It must have finally timed out or something because when I went back to the truck, it had stopped. And now of course I cannot reproduce the problem and everything is working as it should.

The Google results are from the last few years and seem to be primarily with the B&O system, and not just on Ford products. I didn't find any firm resolution when addressed under warranty, but they did say to pull the fuse for the amplifier rather than the battery or it will reset everything. From the manual, fuse #41 under the hood is marked as "AMPLIFIER" and #23 in the BCM is marked "AUDIO UNIT". Accessing either fuse in a semi emergency fashion doesn't look like fun but the BCM one under the dash is really bad. Has anyone had this experience or can confirm which fuse(s) to pull.

Back in the day this happened when there was a strong radio signal interference like a cordless phone or wireless router or cell phone right near the speaker. Could it simply be your cell phone doing all of it's intitial connections via Bluetooth, etc....?

Ford's been in the news lately for other vehicles suffering from ear piercing sound randomly coming from the audio system. Wonder if there is any relation?

Secondly, its kind of startling how over used manufacturers are about fully software driven systems. I'm in software and this practice just seems unsafe, way more unsafe than half the "you can't do that while driving" CYA notices.

When a user dials up a volume level or turns off the radio/audio, I want it on a separate controller so bugs like this can't exist. Perhaps even analogue. The system can send what ever signal it wants then, but at least it can't blow out the users ears. Particularly while the vehicle is in operation at speed.

I was lucky to be in my driveway instead of under way, especially in traffic. No idea what caused it. I doubt the phone connection was the catalyst but I know nothing for certain. The inability to shut it down was probably the most worrisome part.

I had this happen to me on May 31st. Hold down on the power button and the next track button for a few seconds - the audio system will reset. Fortunately I haven't had it happen since.

Thanks a bunch. I will try that just to see what happens but it sure beats pulling fuses, if and when it happens again.
The entire system seems pretty glitchy in and of itself, but that is merely annoying. The loud uncontrolled banging and popping is dangerous.

I've seen this problem a lot with Ford and a little with other brands too. It is most likely a failure in the DSP module (amp) I would try to catch this on your cell phone and get it to the local dealer

Did you ever have a dealer look into it, if yes what was the fix? Just had this happen to me and had to quickly pull the battery cables to shut off the deafening sound. Dealer scanned for codes quickly and nothing was coming and without duplicating the sound they basically couldn't do anything.

No, I ran out of time before winter to get the various issues looked at before putting the Mav away for the winter. I did speak with them about the typical issues, grabby brakes, the sound system glitch above, the unreliable Carplay and map interface, locking up the screen, etc... We decided to look at in in the spring when it comes out of storage, ASSuming there may be more updates by then. They did do a basic check over and oil change at 3300 miles before it went to sleep (on purpose) 🤞
