No where, in Mabett's video does it show taillight's / running turning off when the brake lights or turn signal are activated.
If there is a video of that existing. I would like to take a look at it.

Who in their right mind would intentionally make their brake lights less effective???

If you look at vehicles in town with modded lights like these, there are people like that. There are also tons of posts here and on Maverick Reddit groups of people blacking out their taillights. It’s just a thing some people are into.

I highly doubt these taillights are legal anyway, not DOT approved. I’d steer well clear of this junk.

No magic camera involved.
Technical Aspects of Color Definition
  • Color Accuracy:
The degree to which a camera's output matches the actual colors of the subject in the real world. This is crucial for accurate representations, especially in technical fields.

  • Color Space:
A specific range of colors that a device can display or a file can represent. The most common color space in photography is sRGB (Standard Red, Green, Blue), which ensures consistent color display across different devices.

  • Color Depth/Bit Depth:
The ability of each pixel to represent a range of color tones and intensities. A higher bit depth allows for more subtle and detailed color variations.
Or does this comes down to a personal agenda?
One thing that is for sure is that even if the red LED stop lamps with clear lenses look red to the human eye, their emission spectrum is different than the red LED tail lamps with red lenses. Those red lenses are blocking any orange and yellow wavelengths that are being produced by the LED’s. That is why the stop lamps looks like it has some orange and yellow in the emission spectrum on camera.

And fmvss 108 rules on stop lamps points to DOT lab tests for color spectrum to make sure red is red, amber is amber and white is really white. I would not be surprised if these stop lamps with clear lenses have too much yellow light emission to pass the DOT testing procedure.

if it passes either the visual color comparator test or the tristimulus method, then they would be legal.

I rolled the dice and have been pretty happy with them for the last couple of months (bought them before Mabett offered them). Not a big fan of the tinted look, but I parked test to a Tesla yesterday and the darker look is almost identical to theirs. For what it's worth, the DOT SAE registration code is stamped on them like the OEM tail lights. I'm hanging on to my OEM lights though ;)

Oh, the brake lights are definitely brighter than the tail lights. Just measured with light meter at 12 inches, brake light is a little more than 8 times the brightness of the tail lights. Pics and video don't really capture it accurately.

If I wanted to do the smoked/blackout style taillights thing, I would have my local window tint shop do it for only $60.00. He did the Ford front grill logo for $20.00.

Thanks for the information especially the light meter info. I saw a post on Facebook where the tail lights went out whenever the brake light or turn signal turned on. I am guessing they have a wiring issue or does yours also do that?
The brake light goes out on the particular side when the turn signal is on, just like OEM. Kinda wish the brake light would stay on, but that's Ford's wiring setup - not the tail light manufacturer. Super easy plug and play installation by the way.

Just FYI, on most trucks (and some other vehicles) the turn signal and brake share the same bulb. The brake light goes off and starts to blink with the turn signal on. With this new tail light assembly, the difference is that it's a sequential amber instead of a red brake light blinking. If it was my choice with these, I'd rather have the brake lights on a separate wire....but it's just the way Ford wired/designed it.

I have these. They work great and look great. I like the sequential turn signals. Super high visibility. Actually brighter than factory OEM, considerably. And brighter than most smoked OEM taillights. They work in my 2022 LARIAT, plug and play. No issues. No hyperflash. Works well towing.

I was down in California and got pulled over by CHP the Saturday after Thanksgiving. I thought it might have been because of my taillights. No, it was because I was doing 3 miles over the speed limit with out of state plates. LOL

He did ask me about the taillights. Whether they were OEM, because he hadn't seen a Maverick with amber turn signals in the rear. I mentioned they were aftermarket and he said, they are nice and bright. So, there's that.

The lens itself is not very dark. Most of the darkness comes from the fact that everything inside the housing is black. And the brake lights are totally red. No amber hue to them at all. Not sure why they kinda appear that way in the video.

I'm most concerned about how well they will do over a Washington State winter. Will they keep out the moisture? We have a 10-12" rain storm coming this weekend. Time will tell on that one.

See pic below. Just the taillights alone are brighter than OEM.

Every aftermarket set of taillights I’ve used on my other vehicles has failed me. Even after applying extra silicone to them, they all end up trapping moisture inside.
You'd have to dry them out and then seal them. Not impossible, but definitely a chore one would be inclined to avoid.

Well, so much for that. Didn't have those taillights long. Just traded in my 2022 Lariat FX4 4K Tow for a 2025 Lariat AWD Hybrid BAP 4K Tow. I wanted to take the taillights with me. They added $500 to my trade value to keep them. That's more than I paid for them. SOLD!
