Picked up a bag of 8 of these M8 304 stainless shoulder eye bolts for the threaded bed insets. They were $9.99 for 8. Basically a $5 upgrade for 4 extra tie down spots. One piece, so nothing to rattle either.

I recommend adding fat fender washers to the backside.

If there were nuts on the backside. Not needed here. That's why I got the shoulder bolts.

No rust problems where I live.
It rains in Sacramento and if you ever cross Donner pass, you might hit snow at least half the year.

I've lived here my whole life and never had any rust problems. I still have my 22 year old Explorer. Zero rust. Even after several trips in the snow over Donner Pass.

The F150 I drove to Reno/Tahoe everyday delivering auto parts did have some serious rust problems.

The Stainless loop may not rust but the Galvanic corrosion you just put in to play will corrode the mounting nut from the inside out. 2 dissimilar metals will speed up this corrosion.

Not too concerned with that. I've never had an issue using stainless steel hardware on steel. I was in the towing business for 23 years, Always used stainless hardware on every truck.

Ohh yeah forgot the holes are tapped. Still susceptible to deformation but not too bad. The idea of the rail is that they work together more. Double the pleasure, double the fun!

Truth be told, they may not ever be used. But I'd rather have them if I need extra tie downs, than 4 holes in the bed.

I've used my extra D-rings a few times to secure my cargo net.
