Love my maverick, it feels huge until I pull into a parking lot!

The Maverick IS stupidly huge. Just because the American trucks surrounding it are obscenely and morbidly obese doesn't make the Maverick any less obese.

The Mav and SC are both very poorly designed adaptations of cars and are succeeding in the market only because there is no competition in the tiny truck space. I hope that changes. Till then I'll grimace and drive this horribly compromised SUV with a bed because it's the best I can get right now.

Maybe GM will show some imagination. Or the new Kia or VW small trucks that have been hinted at. Somebody please build something other than the Mav and SC fat pills.
Do not agree. They are not poorly designed. I am happy to be rid of a small body on frame truck. The sit too high. And leaf spring ride sucks.

Ummm , guys I'm thinking Scott is funnin ya....
I agree, I don't think Scott is as mad as one may think. I do miss the simplicity and reliability of the late 1980s Toyota pickups but do appreciate the large increase in interior space and confort of the Maverick. If someone can design the perfect mini-truck, I am all in but until then I will be content with my Maverick.

My boss likes to park his F-250 beside my Maverick. Give's us both a good laugh.
Yes, I bet it gives him a big laugh until... He stops at the pump to fill up. :-(

I'm pretty sure the Maverick is about as small as you can make a truck while still passing safety standards and being just wide enough for plywood/drywall sheets (Which seems to be the bed standard).

What exactly are you looking for in a small truck? I guess I'm lacking in imagination like Ford and Hyundia . Are you looking for an open-backed station wagon? That would be cool I guess, but that would be a seriously compromised vehicle storage wise. I couldn't fit half the stuff I've hauled in that.

Of course it could be smaller, but it would have to be a two seater. I'm sure Ford considered doing a two seater cab but decided it wouldnt sell well, and couldn't keep the costs as low with multiple cab configurations. $20k and only one cab size that suits most seems a good compromise to me.

This truck seems strongly targeted as a truck that can be used as a daily driver, even though many of us don't have four people riding along with us, most of us want the flexibility in our lives to have more than one passenger in our daily driver.

Any smaller truck would have been too niche for Ford to deal with.

Your open backed Station wagon almost came to fruition with a VW concept (which I would have seriously considered if they made it). The wall between the back seats and the bed could open, so you could have a station wagon with a tiny bed, or a full sized bed with the rear seat folded down. You could configure seating for five with tiny bed, or seating for two with full bed.

Probably wouldn't have had the full truck capabilities of the Maverick though... But maybe the poster complaining about the size doesn't need that.

I have a big smile for all the good-natured ribbing I'm getting for the "poorly designed" comment. You make a provocative statement like that, you definitely deserve some heat.

Mav is actually a brilliant effort by the designers - they achieved just what they were told to achieve by the product planners - a cheap derivation off an existing platform. My real beef is with the product planners. But they're probably right and I'm probably wrong. The market has moved to 4 door trucks, and 2 doors is a cherished memory along with standard transmissions.

I'm just doing my "Grouchy Old Men" routine because I didn't get my tiny two-door truck. Dang it Ford, deliver me a two door Maverick.

I'm in a more rural area in Northern California, and there are full-sized trucks aplenty, but people cling to their small trucks until they disintegrate into rust particles.

I too would have loved a two-seater, especially if it were a short wheelbase from the Bronco Sport. I’d love something like the old International Harvester Scout.

It feels like there is a good analogy for that statement but I'm not touching it. Remember its not the size that counts but how you use it.
Somebody HAD to go there!

We down sized from a F150 because as "boomers" it was getting a bit more difficult for me and my child bride of 42 years to climb in and out. While I loved my big truck, we now love our "little truck", it is much easier to get in and out of, has plenty of room for my wife and I and a couple of booster seats in the back for the grand kids. The under seat storage fits a range bag perfectly and securely.
The bed currently has a 15.5 ft, inflatable kayak and all the accessories with room to spare for bird seed and such, and 49.0 mpg average. They tell me it took 10.5 months to get, but that wait has faded into the ether. I told my wife, we could double our money if we sold it today :) She just sais NO, I love our truck. So there it is.

Its the perfect size and configuration. I always thought the ridgeline was perfect but nope. Its too big. Ford hit a home run. Just praying its reliable.

I live in western Wyoming, the land of the gigantic trucks.

Mine suffers the same affliction at Home Depot. BUT, there is always someone gawking at it and asking about it when I go to leave.
