Hi, I have searched the forum with some luck. However things change over time. I am looking for a fire extinguisher that will fit in the driver's side front door. Appreciate any responses. Thanks

I just keep a can of fire spray in the bottle holder. Unwrapped and ready to go. It sprays a non-toxic, gel-like substance and is easy to cleanup.

If you have a traditional dry-chemical extinguisher and have an accidental discharge...you will be cleaning that powder out of every crevice until the end of time.

I would avoid a dry-chemical extinguisher in the passenger compartment for that reason. If you want a traditional extinguisher, get a halotron one and mount it to the seat bracket so it's within reach. Don't leave it in the box or rolling around because it'll become a projectile in a crash and the last thing you want to do if there's a fire is to waste precious seconds unboxing the extinguisher.

If you absolutely want to carry a dry-chemical, I'd mount it somewhere in the bed. That way if there is an accidental discharge, at least it's easy to wash the bed clean.

Keeping one standing up is the challange. I have a 2 lb. marine extinguisher wrapped in a red plastic bag to protect against accidental discharge that sits horizontally in the well at the side of the rear drivers side seat. A couple of wrist hands keep the bag tight and provides cushioning.

Dry chemical can wreak havoc with electronics.
Sure, the fire may be out, but the cleanup will try your soul.
Spend the extra to get the Halon, or whatever its latest substitute is.
Hopefully you’ll never need it.

Great thoughts. Once had a Injection Molding Machine catch fire in the control panel due to a short on an unprotected circuit. Fixing the wiring was easy compared to the clean out.

I would be concerned about the storage temperature range on that product only being 32-107 degrees F.

I agree, works for me but not for everyone. Fortunately my car is garage-parked all week since I bike and take public transport to work. It also doesn't get too hot since I seldom have to park outside with the A/C off for longer than a Costco run.

If I had to park outside regularly, I'd likely just switch to a halotron fire extinguisher.

I always carried halon in my plane. I have one in the Maverick.

Never thought about that before. Don't want it to leak.

Must be pretty old
Thought they don't have halon anymore.
Nope
In aviation circles, you can get recertified ones.😉 You have to know where to look.
Halotron 1 is newer but $$$
I also realize I drive the hybrid I'm not going to put out a lithium ion battery with a handheld fire extinguisher. I have a basically for other motorists.
I have good insurance. I don't want a fire repaired truck
