Turns out it's leaking transmission fluid through a bad Axle seal. I'm glad I didn't follow Fords recommended oil change schedule otherwise it would have gone unnoticed until it started going dry.
Also, really great call not including a transmission dipstick.

It would be wonderful to know the build date of your truck too… just incase a batch has these issues or a one off.

Much appreciate if others take a look under their tranny like to see if its a common occurrence to the 2.0 only?
best of luck in dealing with these issues.
We are all watching this thread.
When I get it back I'll try to remember to post those details.

Could also be from a axle shaft seal on the output of the transmission, doesn’t take too much to knick a seal, or knock the tension spring off the seal.

good luck, keep us informed of what/how it gets sorted.

So what you’re saying is……. I nailed it!

as to transmission dipsticks, most vehicles don’t have them anymore, certainly not many of the European cars I’ve been working on for the last 2 decades. In this age of computers and solenoid valves, most transmissions have to be filled using a computer, and then you pull a plug and it starts leaking to level off when it reaches a given temperature.

hope your issue is resolved after this.

I'm assuming this fix requires dropping the tranny, engine, subframe, exhaust to get to that seal?
At least it was caught early but leaks like this shouldn't happen ever on a new vehicle.
I'm seriously getting second thoughts on taking delivery of my Lariat AWD that's in transit. :(

usually just front strut bolts, lower ball joint, brake caliper and rotor, and pop the axle out. Extract seal, install new one.

probably 3hrs at most tbh

Welp, after getting it back from the dealer the tranmission is now slipping so bad it could barely move at 3000RPMs and there's tranny fluid thrown on top of the engine. You can smell it. Now it probably needs a transmission.

Wonder if they overfilled it and its blowing out the vent all these modern transmissions are a pain since they have to be up to temp and level and pull a level plug

All I can say is thank god for a 3/36k mile warranty and an extra car to drive while warranty work is being performed!

That's actually one of my concerns. If they overfilled it they could let some fluid out or if its low they could add fluid. That wont reverse the damage that may have occured. 36,000 miles is nothing, thats not even half of what is supposed to be the normal fluid change interval.

Maybe.
It started out as a couple delayed gear changes(figured a couple delayed shifts were normalish) and turned into extreme slipping and almost complete failure to move.

the first transmission fluid change recommendation is 150k or 30k if you tow/operate in extreme conditions.

They replaced the axle seal.
ehhh, I don’t think this is the only issue based on your conditions. Hope you get a new tranny
