Lazy man's dashcam install

Nice. I have a cheap 40 canadian peso camera thats supposed to be window mounted via 3m double sided tape. Ive had my windshield replaced since then and never bothered remounting it. This is a good idea.

That would be a great option. I fear messing with wiring, don't want to give Ford an excuse to not honor my warranty

I was worried about that too which is why I bought a dash cam from Ford. The wiring harness connected directly to the OBD connector so I didn't have to splice into an existing wire or a fuse. The dealership said the deep sleep problem I was having was caused by my dash cam and then I told them the dash cam was an authorized Ford part I purchased from them. That pretty much ended that conversation.

I dunno. I mean, they were talking about flying cars in the '50s and don't offer those yet.

I just thought I would add a bit to this question about dash cams.
I am looking and found one on Amazon that looks pretty good and is inexpensive.
It's 4K on the front and 1080P on the back camera.

Ok, I guess I'm officially "old" even though I don't think of myself that way so I have to ask - Why? Can someone please help me understand what a dashcam is doing for you? Obviously, it records video but what are you doing with that video, why do you need it? I'm not being judgemental, I'm asking a genuine question in an attempt to understand.

A good question. I have a dash/rear cam because so many other drivers are, well...not driving when they should be.

So I have one to help protect myself if in an accident and the other driver can't argue with me, or possible mis-represent the truth.

I have seen some of the other dash cam videos here on MTC, and it is definitive as to what occurred in the collision (I don't like the word accident as it insinuates there was nothing that can be done to prevent it from happening, and almost all can be prevented).

I am about to start a thread about dash cams, but for close calls only...crashes deserve their own special thread and I don't have a personal example...and I dont want one to use!

I am starting a thread about close calls, as I just had one, but I had my head up and saw it coming....so not an accident to report!

Secondary thoughts, I hear it quite often I the news now where police are asking for the publics assistance with dash cam footage from a certain area in a specific window of time as something happened, and it helps them with the investigation.

So, I will see what comes out of the woodwork on the thread, so have a look!

I went with one that covers the rear view mirror, it gives me a larger mirror and the whole thing is the screen. I haven't installed the rear camera, but the front camera is on it. Wolfbox is a popular brand, bought mine several years ago and it migrated from previous vehicle. Certainly helped with my accident claim when it showed I was at a complete stop when my Scion Xb got hit from behind and was totaled. I ran the cable behind the shroud, under the headliner and down the passenger side pillar. It just clips on to the mirror, super fast easy install.

If I slam on my brakes and you rear end me, you are at fault in any state. TrY to prove it without a camera! Insurance SCAMS are happening!

Just had a neighbor get hit at an intersection. She had a dash cam which showed the other driver ran a red light. The other driver tried claiming to the police he had the green.
