Here is wording from the 2024 operators manual regarding fuel octane. Personally I'm not an advocate of running premium if not necessary but when you can hear knocking at low RPM under load it is time to pay attention. I've had enough turbo cars to know the signs.

Your vehicle operates on regular unleaded
gasoline with a minimum pump (R+M)/2
octane rating of 87.
Some fuel stations, particularly those in
high altitude areas, offer fuels posted as
regular unleaded gasoline with an octane
rating below 87. The use of these fuels

could result in engine damage that will not
be covered by the vehicle Warranty.
Well, I can say I am not running gas lower than the posted 87 Octane. Top tier Exxon/Mobil from a busy station.

My salesman told me that it operated on 85 octane. I guess he doesnt know what he is talking about. I would be very upset if i had a problem and the warranty was void. I will try an 87 and see. I appreciate all the input here i have been very unhappy since i bought it which was a couple months ago.

Giving the salesman the benefit of the doubt I would guess he met 87. Up here I have never seen 85 sold.

I too hate to spend $$$$ on 93 if I do not need to, but if 93 helps than I suppose given my limited driving it would be worth it.

yes i've noticed that just lately with MY 24 ecoboost xl. i run 89 octane. i'm at approx 2500 mi. and my milage also jumped from 25.5 to 27.5. all the same kind of driving. obviously it's fishing for the lowest rpm. i give a little goose on the throttle to downshift but it's a recent phenomenon for me. i'm hoping Ford corrects this.

My 22 Lariat FX4 has a vibration as well. With mechanical experience from FWD VWs, I suspect a inner half shaft tri joint. If feels the same to me🤷🏻‍♂️

There are pumps around, not everywhere which have blending pumps which mix regular 85-86-87 with 91-92-93 to yield what every rating you want to pay for. I saw one that had 87-89-91-93 octane choice on pump, same nozzle just push different pricing button. They are usually in areas where elevation varies several thousand feet.

Filled truck today with 93 (had to bite hard @ + $1.25 / Gal. ) before a Home Depot run of 120 miles round trip. Both the wife and I agree things seemed smoother with the 93 as opposed to the 87.

We are both pleased with the result. Next up try 91 and check the results.
