The appeal of keeping my underseat storage has me looking at the Kicker HS10, but I had a bad experience with a sound ordinance underseat type sub (just like the Kicker). I would rather sacrifice my storage than have a sub I am not happy with (the sound ordinance is more of a mid bass than and actual sub and I really dont like that much mid bass).

I would love to hear feedback from HS10 owners (or similar) who come from more traditional setups.

I guess not many people have gone from traditional subs to the underseat style?

My kicker HS8 has been great!

Previously had a dual 10" box in my 2005 Sport Trac.

Thanks for the feedback! obviously a single 8 in a tiny box will not compare to dual 10s but is the bass substantial enough? My sound ordinance under seat just REALLY disappointed me and im really hesitant to go that route.

I was actually surprised by the Bass. I keep the dial on less than half and it's more than enough. I will say that I recently put one of those old MTX 10's I had in a box I bought on Amazon, in the trunk of my Mustang with a Sony Xplod(old) Amp, and it is quite a bit more bass than the Kicker.

I love my hs10, I put it on the back wall and used the plug n play.com kit for wiring. I love the sound of it… but I’m not an audio snob, just like to rock out every once in awhile.

there's a big thread on powered subs, it's got to be 8-10+ pages. I would go ask there what people really think about their HS10 and how it compares to any discrete amp and sub box they've used, and what that other box was.

I have heard a HS10 and it's fairly good for a compact powered sub. It definitely cannot hang with any properly built 8" (let alone 10") in a small sealed box in the under-bench storage tubs. My system is relatively affordable and it's still 2x what a HS10 costs, so you can definitely spend a lot on a custom box and amp.

To me it depends on what you listen to, and how loud. If you listen to electronic or hip hop LOUD, you are much more likely to find the HS10 lacking. If you don't have B&O and have no plans to amp your front door & dash speakers, then the HS10 is more than enough, in fact it'll definitely be unbalanced with a non-amped front stage.

Any of those powered units will more likely sound like midbass fill rather than punchy bass. Get any sub in a ported enclosure for nearly twice the bass output. A full sized sub will offer way more excursion than shallow subs. More air movement means more bass. Hope this info helps.

Yes, it does. I think i will be going with an underseat option, thanks for the education!

sounds like you were always going to do that and just wanted to check if anyone hated theirs.

I would say buy an HS10, install it properly behind the rear bench, and see what you think. if it's not enough, sell it to someone and move up.

hahaha this is largely true! I was so disappointed with the sound ordinance in my other truck that I vowed to never go that route again.

I have mine behind the rear seat. Couldn't be happier. It doesn't bump like my JL 10" I had in a previous car, but it fills out the low end nicely. I use a fraction of the gain available.
