Kept for heat exchanger?

This am my engine light came on. Called dealership to get it in for check and an oil change. When I arrived at the dealership this afternoon he told me it was the heat exchanger without even plugging a reader in. Guess he can look remotely? 10 minutes later driving off in a loaner vehicle...is this normal for a heat exchanger to get pull off the road?

Big problem with the hybrids, their supplier must have screwed up because yes, it's common.

It's actually not a heater core, it's a heat exchanger in the exhaust used to heat up the battery

You know how you can get alerts in the FordPass app if your vehicle is having issues, like with a check engine light? Dealer service departments can see some diagnostic information on their end as well, if they know where to look. So they may not always need to plug in to get a DTC (code).

Sounds like there was a code thrown about the heat exchanger and they were on the ball with providing a loaner, looks like you have a good dealer. Let us know how the repairs go!

we bought a used 22 hybrid XLT with 7K. Same problem, they claim they had 2 replacement exhaust pipes come in damaged by fedex and don't know when they can get another. They offered to "unwind" the deal and give us our trade-in back. We did just that and will wait for our 23 on order.

Wow. I noticed a bunch of junk dripping on the floor of my garage when we had super cold weather a few weeks ago.....thought it was rusty water coming off the exhaust. Looks like I need to go in to check the heat exch.

It's gonna be a love/hate relationship with this.

Boosts MPG and lowers emissions, but adds complexity and one more point of failure.

Back in my Army days you'd have to get rodded off the range to diagnose that

Yes, if you activated Ford Pass the dealership can see the DTC ahead of time.

Had the same issue on mine. Will need exhaust, part on pack order. I am driving mine until the part comes in, and don't see a reason why I shouldn't be.
