I dunno, I sure miss my GSW (Golf Sportwagen) S - 2016 1.8T gasser EPA rated 25/36 MPG with a 5 speed stick. Yup 5 in 2016. Tall gears, hit 60mph in 2nd. Lifetime actual MPG for me was 38.40. Not diesel. Fit tons of gear and drove sporty and had cheap sized 15" tires!

Camping, climbing and SUPs gear all fit inside:

Always loved the GSW and it's a real shame we never got the mk 7.5 model with the 7 speed DSG or, even better, the GSW R with the 328 HP engine and AWD.

My 84 diesel rabbit had 2.5 x tougher springs in back and I would regularly haul 17 bags of concrete at 80 pounds per bag. Rear seat removed and 2 bags in front seat
Had a Ranbit diesel With that load you could probably get it up to 15 mph

Very nice. Honestly though, only counts as truck stuff when you get bulk mulch/soil, not the bagged stuff. That is hatchback/SUV stuff. ;)
Naah - bagged is fine too as long as you put a lot of it in the truck. I used my F-150 to haul a good amount of mulch in bags. It was a bit more expensive, but it was very convenient and I didn't want to take my trailer and buy bulk that time. I've done that too, just pull the trailer to the spot you want the mulch and sling it out with a pitchfork.

I don't like dumping loose dirt/sand/gravel/mulch in the bed directly. Though it can be done.

From AI

There were over 360 million SUVs on the road globally as of 2023, a number that continues to grow annually, making them a dominant vehicle type.

Begs the question, why in hell would the Rooster Man want to drive what 360 Million people are driving when I can have a Maverick.. (y)
One of the reasons for that is that a lot of manufacturers don't make sedans any more. Like Ford (other than the Mustang).

Sometimes bags are worth the premium for the conveniently sized packaging. Sometimes the loose stuff is just too cheap (or free) to pass up.

The small city I used to live in had a "citizen's convenience center", better known as a dump. You could take yard debris there free of charge, other items there was a fee to dispose of. I took many F150 truck loads of debris there and added it to the big pile. They would use a front end loader and scoop up the waste and run it debris through a shredder and offer "free" mulch. Of course people would put all sorts of things under the yard waste and throw it in the pile. I saw toilets, car batteries, construction debris and more in the pile.I never used the free mulch because I knew I had taken poison oak and ivy waste there so I would not want it back in shredded form. A neighbor would get the free mulch every year then complain his landscaping was being over run with weeds. I bought bagged mulch, which is treated if you buy good bagged mulch, and had few weeds.

I've done bulk mulch once (in an F-150) and IMHO bags are better for the typical suburban homeowner. Bags are just so much easier to move and position around the yard.
X2 and the bags are a lot easier unloading from the Maverick than the F-150 since the Maverick is lower than F-150's. Before I got the Maverick I had a 2023 BS BB and before that I had a 2021 F-150 4X4 Super Crew and the Maverick was much easier unloading the mulch than the F-150 was.

one time there was gold in the mulch in these parts it was actually about the same price as bulk when it was $2 a bag or less there was little point in messing with that crap, now I just use stone mulch, lasts longer doesn't attract ants( a few years back concrete mix in bags was about the same price as delivered ready mix)

Meh, bagged is more expensive, lower quality, and you have to deal with all the stupid plastic bags. No thanks. I just use a tarp to keep it out of the tailgate gap.

bulk mulch in these parts became of a "fort Knox" quality.last load I bought taught me that all loader men are not equal, once upon a time when it was 2$ or less a bag the convenience outweighed the hassle of bulk mulch, the plastic bags were never a problem for me-either recycled or repurposed( litter pickup or container to put ashes in,eg) these days I don't bother with the "ant attractant" I just trim real close or use stone mulch, the only time I use any vegetable mulch is around a newly planted tree or flower bed( don't plant flowers these days due to the burgeoning whitetail deer explosion these days I wish for a bushhog and "xeriscape" there are better ways to spend your time then being enslaved to a lawn.
