So I was always under the impression on the older Ford Maverick radio is not the sync three or four, but the basic ones, that you had to plug it in to the USB and use auto android in order to listen to music or things from apps on your phone.

Today I was listening to the radio and I went under sources to switch it from FM to AM (first time I had ever done that) and saw a thing that said Bluetooth source. I pressed that with my phone connected but not plugged in and I was able to listen to music from my phone, YouTube, XM radio, pretty much the apps I had on my phone. So why do I have to plug it in? Is it just to get Google maps for navigation? Is that new or did I just not realize you could do that.

Thank you! I wish I knew that when I first got it. I thought it had to always be plugged in so I would always plug it in just to listen to my apps. It is so much easier not having to do that lol. And then if I need Google maps I'll plug it in.

If plugging in your phone for navigation annoys you like it does me, they make a bunch of wireless adapter options. I've been happy with this one for android auto and it was less then $25 when I purshed it last April...

Not a recommendation.
I have a different one.
Just first one that came up.
Flawless for 3.5 years.

I love that it reminds me if I leave my phone at home or in the office too.

Within 30 seconds of key-on my screen will say "no phone found".
Saved my butt two or three times so far.

My only complaint about bluetooth audio with sync lite is that the audio quality is HORRIBLE compared to wired android auto. Its like the source volume is locked to 100% so the phone does all sorts of compression to try to limit distortion, but it ends up still coming across distorted. Especially bass and highs. Volume level 12 and above is where you can really notice it. Maybe its just my phone but I dont know of a solution....

I believe the wireless Android Auto/CarPlay pucks use wifi between them and your phone, and the bandwidth there is much better than Bluetooth. The basic units are not great and I really wish they went with Sync 3 for all of them, especially since that system was already 5-6 years old by the launch in late 2021.

Some of the older bluetooth audio standards are limited to 56kbit so anything coming through them are going to sound like a 1999 standard MP3 with clipping and artefacts. Though phones made in the last 5 years shouldn't be suffering that.

'25+ have wireless android auto & apple carplay so you get the maps and everything wirelessly as well.

It works through wifi. You can add it to 22-24 mavericks with a usb dongle -- needs to be plugged into the same usb port that you would normally use with a cable -- but it works well.

I had this one in my Honda before I traded it in and it worked great for 2 years so it seemed to be built to last.

I wouldn't get super tiny versions of the dongle because they can get quite toasty and will probably fry themselves eventually.

Ford could do that since the early days of sync. Glad you discovered it. It's amazing the things that we sometimes discover about a vehicle even after having owned it for a few years

Just be bear in mind that wireless CarPlay & AA use both Bluetooth and Wifi to establish connections and maintain streaming. If you want to connect your DashCam to your phone it most likely will not work as Wifi priority is usually given for CarPlay or AA. Your dongle will need to be disconnected.

Prolly not a major deal for most but it does happen. I prefer a wired connection so no hassles and my phone gets charged at the same time.

I plug my phone in for trips and listening to ebooks so that my phone isn't drained when I leave the truck. Short trips around town, I don't bother but longer trips, I do.
