I’ve had my 2024 Maverick XLT Tremor for over a month now and I am still thoroughly enjoying it. Love most of the noises it makes so far (weed whacker exhaust, heat shield rattle, and GDI noises aside). It’s hilariously laggy if you’re looking for a little and just getting it to close the veins is pretty satisfying. I’ve had Mazda’s 2.5L GDi Turbo in a Mazda 6 which was very quiet but with just a drop in AEM DryFlow filter would kinda make the engine liven up a bit. Also, the compressor noises (not just the woosh and hiss but the whine) became more apparent. That engine was fully recirculated and cooled so almost no fun noises unless you rolled down the window and listened closely.

As for my question, what is everyone’s experiences with intakes or box filters. Is there a non-oil based box filter that is generally seen as the one to get for the 2.0 EB? And do they improve the sound inside the car at all? As for performance getting more out of the bottom end of the rev range is always welcome, but I’m not going to be racing anyone.

This is always a fun topic- I myself really enjoy having this S/B intake on my FX4- Just a touch more intake growl and a little BOV whoosh addition but still quiet as can be. Its got a little more butt in seat oomph - The way that Ford limits the turbo PSI when accelerating from a stop gets in the way of the fun, an intake cant fix that along with the transmission that gets confused when you want the beans so it is what it is- For me I was just happy getting rid of that POS/OEM filter housing assembly- I went with the dry extendable unit -

The fit and finish of the S/B intake is top notch- BTW

I still haven’t seen the refrigeration unit that cools the incoming air flow. That’s a lot of air moving really fast.

I figure 30,000 BTU’s could bring the inbound air temp down five to seven degrees below ambient air temps.

Cold air intake,
I’m not falling for that brilliant piece of marketing.

I call them a More/Air intake- Any real reduction in temps would need to have A Nasa/Heat Shield type coating and some other Eskimo magic - That turbo gets hot as heck -

More AIR = More Fuel = less MPG??
There are no free lunches.
You can't put more air through an engine to achieve more power and not use more fuel.

Just pull the recirc tube and cap the intake, I've been running mine like that for 2 years. Costs $5 for the rubber cap and a hose clamp. I added a K&N filter and it made no difference in intake sound. Really you'd have to do an open box filter to hear anything, but hot air

S&B intake. ive noticed better throttle response, slight uptick in fuel mileage, can hear the turbo spooling much more than before. ill have my tune next week, hopefully will be even better.

My brother sold his mav and gave me all of his purchased goodies. Intake, massive strut bar, Boomba Throttle body and manifold spacers, Boomba Motor mount, Dual catch cans, wheels/tires and a corsair turbo.
Edit* He also gave me a Stainless works downpipe. I had no idea how much that cost until i looked it up..... Whata waste. Great for free though.

The S&B Air Intake for the new EB will be available soon. Looking forward to my install!

What I like about the S&B’s is that they use the OEM air duct in the grille. Same air as the OEM.

You don’t get “more air”, but you do get less restricted air. More efficient air delivery. Most of us remember wearing face masks & how it was so much easier to breathe with the mask off.

The throttle body is the EB’s “mouth” - and it won’t need to suck as hard to get the same amount of air. Any mpg gains are from that efficiency gain.

In addition - the intake sound is better & clearer. Folks who mumbled through their face masks were hard to understand. Although they were quieter & easier to ignore.

But I like to hear my EB. It is my “stereo system”. Catback in the rear, air intake sound up front;)

Was the downpipe like $1,200 dollars?

The S&B Air Intake systems use the same air duct as the OEM. Pop the hood on your new Tremor and admire the “Ram Jet” air intake. The S&B is the same air - but more efficient.

And certainly much cooler air than the earlier Fords:)

Even with a tune, the OEM intake system will flow more air than the engine is capable of using. OEM's tune these parts for pass-by testing (noise), while still surpassing engine requirements. An aftermarket system will only alter the sound, everything else is placebo.
