For anyone with a lariat and ACC, does it aggressively brake while in traffic when a vehicle pops out in front of you? Even in slippery mode the braking is intense, and then if that vehicle moves across the lane and into another quickly afterwards the Maverick will almost floor it to regain its lost speed.

It's super annoying, and I'm thinking of trying the Comma.AI box to see if it's any better.
I don't find the braking to be really intense but the radar can't see the turn signal or see the car edging in like we can and brake early in anticipation so it's going to be rougher than a really good driver

The "flat-out" ACC acceleration bugs me too but it seems smoother in slippery mode so that's usually what I switch to when using ACC.

I wish comma.ai was available for 2025s, I'd be using it already

There must be some algorithm that decides if the ACC stays active or not but I haven't figured it out

Last week I hit a few traffic jams and in one of them (about 20 minutes long) the ACC stayed active the whole time, I didn't have to hit the resume button or touch the steering wheel once the whole time even though it was stop and go

Then in another similar jam later on, it wouldn't stay active I had to move the steering wheel and hit resume once in a while. Weird.

Still, the combination of hybrid + ACC + lane keeping really helps me stay sane in traffic. Especially the fact that the engine isn't idling away the whole time while we're creeping at 0.25 MPH and I can just let 'the robot' follow the car ahead until traffic clears up
What you've described sounds a lot like "auto-resume" in my F150. Auto-Resume only works on limited access highways (basically interstates*). Here's the description from the F150 manual:

"Displays when on a limited access highway after following a vehicle to a complete stop. In this situation, the vehicle resumes following the lead vehicle without a button press or pressing the accelerator pedal. The system can remain in auto-resume state for approximately 30 seconds, after which it no longer automatically resumes."

Using GPS data the truck knows where it is. I'm guessing the Maverick is using the same info that my BlueCruise equipped F150 uses.

* There are limited access highways that are not interstates.

Keep in mind that the truck only looks out ahead a certain distance; say for example 200 ft. If something is 200 ft 6 in ahead the truck doesn't see this. It just doesn't have the vision you do. The truck's "aggressive" braking zone is further out than yours. It errs on the side of caution. You'll learn to anticipate the truck's behavior and intercede by clicking off ACC and manually controlling the brakes. ACC is pretty good, but it doesn't have your brain's reasoning power.

Yes it does. The braking is imo rather aggressive even when traffic doesn't pop in front of me. My assumption is that this is a result of a limitation of the distance at which the radar can detect an object in front of you. I could be wrong but that's the only reason I can imagine that they would build it this way. I'm not terribly impressed with the braking or acceleration. A decent amount of my driving is two-land highway driving though so for me it is still useful. However, I still usually brake myself because I really don't like how aggressive the braking is. The acceleration is not so bad.

On mine I can change the distance it looks at also. I found that if I set the shortest distance the braking is aggressive, longest distance it is more of a deceleration.
I have mine set to the furthest distance and both braking and acceleration are both pretty aggressive

How do I keep the cruise control from kicking off when there is a vehicle in front of me, also is there a way to stop the driver needs to rest alerts that pop up?
Drive without getting too close to the lane lines. I have, I think got the message without drifting by just looking for the fan speed or other button without eyes on road. Also if in ACC cruise use the blinkers to change lanes particularly if just slowly approaching the lane line. I haven't tested the driver needs a nap warning by just closing my eyes for a few seconds, but maybe Uncle Ford is watching?

I keep mine at two bars but I also treat ACC a little more like dumb cruise. I tend to only resume it once I am at the set speed and I will take over if I suspect I am approaching a heavy braking situation. I'll then let it handle the slower, inconsistent speed areas because usually the car in front of me won't take off like a bat out of hell and the acceleration is smoother. However, I have found its reaction time in heavy traffic is a touch quicker than mine when it comes to stopping.

The farther the distance setting is the longer it takes for the auto cruise resume to activate when traffic starts to move. It is very hard to not touch brake pedal and disconnect the cruise.

Yes, all ACC cars can do this. I was referring to the max distance. Even though the driver can see a thousand yards, the truck can only see the "200 ft".

'

with a 25 hybrid lariat, I haven't found braking to be excessive when a car pulls in front.

It's actually caught one sudden deceleration ahead before I saw it. (it also caught one that jumped into traffic so fast that the brake was already being applied before my foot hit the pedal! )

However, when a car leaves your lane and decelerates (e.g., turning lanes and off-ramps), it brakes as if the car was still in font of you.

It actually underbrakes when approaching parked cars at a light. Not to the point that it would cause a collision, but to the point of needing the actual brakes in situations that would've been fine with regenerative braking alone.

The system can remain in auto-resume state for approximately 30 seconds, after which it no longer automatically resumes."
my maverick does this as well, but I think that it's also at traffic lights. it tends to be too quick a cutoff in any event.
