So, in my case, we signed a contract and paid $1000 deposit on Dec. 29 but the order date in Ford's system is Jan. 3, 2022. It was a holiday weekend, maybe that's why it didn't show until then? Anyway, we should be price protected to the MSRP sticker price on Jan. 3 which we agreed to. Is that correct? Our build is supposed to start Aug. 8.

Ford raised the prices, not the dealer.

Price protection. You should get it. But it is a little complicated on the dealers end. If they sell a retail order to the person who ordered it, they will be reimbursed for the difference between the new and original "invoice" prices (less any difference in the fuel charge). So the reimbursement the dealer receives may not be the same as the amount that they have to discount you to sell to you @ your quoted price (MSRP or otherwise).

...

BUT, none of this really matters. The dealership should do right by you, the customer, and honor the price they originally quoted you.
This all makes logical and understandable sense. In another current thread (here), a dealer does not appear to be honoring original agreements or price protection. In such a case, who would someone appeal to? Is there any recourse other than walking away and starting over again?

Ordered Aug. 2021, took delivery May 2022, price had increased $835 in the interim. Dealership required I pay new price and assured me I would receive a check from them for the difference. Received a check for full amount this week.

That is something that I cannot help with. I don't really think that there is anyone you can appeal to. The Maverick is the dealer's until they sell to you. I don't think that Ford will be able to do anything about it.

My advice for people ordering 23 would be to get the dealer to agree to price protection ahead of time. If they won't, find another dealer.

In the case of that thread you mentioned....they are talking about an under invoice offer. Recently, I know that that dealer explicitly stated that they wouldn't honor price protection for under-invoice offers, but I don't know if they were that clear for the first people who took that offer.
Maybe they expected a price increase, and planned on the price protection reimbursement to make up for the amount that they sold under invoice by?

In some cases, I suspect the misunderstanding may be due to talking to the wrong people. In larger dealerships, the salesmen may not have any knowledge of price protection. You may have to talk to sales manager or finance manager.

On Ford's end, they are supposedly working on a way to make it more clear which units have price protection, and how much that amount will be. If that pops up clearly on smart vincent like incentive protection does, I think getting price protection will be easier for customers...but there will probably be some dealers trying to get around it.

If you modified your order by adding options after the price increases then you fundamentally updated your order's price level so, yes, you'd lose your price protection on the other items affected.

Man the more I read about you poor souls dealings I am very fortunate, (I didn't bug the shit out of them either). I ordered Nov.5 2021. Not once did I mention the price protection not did they. When the truck arrived the price was the same as it was 8 months ago, MSRP no add ones etc.. On top of that Ford gave me a $750 rebate. I have no idea why. Also 8 months ago I asked that they put no dealers stickers or license plate frames on. Again never mentioned it again. They delivered the truck July 11, (two weeks AHEAD of schedule from Ford), with no stickers or frames.
You have price protection! From Ford Motor Company. Maybe Ford guy will chime in or PM him. Good luck.
I’m fine with the dealer license plate frame to hold the temporary registration tag before the permanent plate comes in. But after that, the temp tag and the frame go in the trash.

Like you, I don’t want dealer stickers on my vehicle. When I bought my Mav, I politely but firmly told my salesman to have the dealer sticker removed before I took delivery, and it was done with no questions asked.

Unless they want to pay me for advertising. Nothing is free!

There is the perception that Price Protection provided by Ford is at least expected to benefit the purchaser. I guess that price protection, like interest rates, are provided as tools to the dealer and applied at dealer discretion. In the mentioned thread, the finance manager appears to retain the protection amounts for dealership benefit and not apply them for purchaser benefit.

My turn is not for a few months. It may turn out the under invoice offers are simply 'too good to be true'. In my case, an under invoice deal would equate to a MSRP deal with the recent price increases.

Thank you. I have valued all of your responses on the forum. Always on point, factual in nature.

You're welcome! That has been my goal, to provide facts the best that I can!

You make a great point there. Price protection was designed as a tool for the dealer to make the customer happy, and comfortable to place a retail order. Place and order with us, and we'll gladly honor this price when the vehicle comes in. That's how I look at it. Technically, the price protection is price protection for the dealer (since it is based on dealer cost).

Price protection used to be rather rare...now it applies to almost all orders. So in this crazy car market, the chances for genuine errors, or attempts to make more profit based on price protection, are higher than ever!

Good luck with your order....I hope the process goes smoothly and that you are pleasantly surprised with your deserved price protection!
