Found the dial helps with carry out. Got a tall package that fell over spilling the rice and beans into my enchiladas and the sauce leaking into the bag.
But the space between the seats above the dial helped keep them upright.

Reading this stupid stuff is a waste of time.. all cars will have it in time
You are correct sir as are all forum posts. But it's a fun way to waste time.

I would prefer a column shifter. The other day my mother in law parked her work truck where I have told her not to many times. So the other day when I had to back a trailer into the carport I had to kink it up and do a Austin powers. In the 5 or 6 times I had to move a foot and shift and steer I miss shifted and jammed park twice.

I think the problem is that if you were raised on column shift, grew up to learn manual but hot rodded a a console shift auto, than you will never be 100% comfortable with the dial.
I'm with you. If space conservation was the goal a column shifter would have been super easy and then console would have had even more room to fill with crap.

I drove it today and tried to visualize a column shifter arc as I shifted it trying to retrain my brain to this thing. I'm back to work Monday and in my manual trans Taco or Miata so I'll probably start all over again the next time I drive it.

I hate it that some folks are so fragile on here that they get triggered by someone not liking what they like. I've tried to keep this thread light and funny but some people need a drink or something.

Cheers anyway and thanks to all who had a laugh or contributed something other than vitriol. I'd buy any MTC member a round even if they like the stupid dial shifter.

Ya just now I was visualizing a much smaller shifter. There is no real reason it has to be a big space occupying thing, it could easily be a lot narrower version of the traditional for and aft type floor shifter. Ohh well. there is that cool bump shifter in ,I think, the old new ranger or maybe an f150. Things can be modded and swapped. Heck I wouldnt even mind the dial as much if it was by the radio knob. It would be a more natural reach and in near direct eye sight.

Yeah people get in a twist over little things sometimes. I honestly am just a lil worried about anyone who gets triggered by anything. Thats a touchy way to live. We see too often in the news the dangerous reactions people have.

Translation: “I bought this truck and I hate the dial shifter. Instead of being mad at myself for buying the truck, I’ll just bitch about Ford.”

My Tacoma has the 4WD knob on the dash an it is exactly like the HVAC knob and a little to the left of it. About once a year I grab that thing thinking it's the HVAC fan knob and twist it into 4WD before realizing it's the wrong knob.

Usually when the windshield is fogged and you're trying to clear it in a hurry. There are a bunch of threads on TacomaWold about it that mirror this one.
I'd be all for it being on the dash with a completely different knob than the radio one quite a bit away from it.

@Leuf nailed it. It's the way our brains are trained to see the arc of a shifter travel from P to D on a dash display. I struggle most doing 3pt turns as well.
I saw a UTUBE where a guy hacked his bicycle to turn the wheel left when he turned handle bars right! He said it was difficult for the first two or three weeks.

That would be one funny looking bike ride lol.

Someone else pointed out that Luef's statement wasn't right. I went out and messed with it and the shifter does travel in the same arc a column shifter would. When I'm driving it I'm now trying to visualize that arc.

With ALL this talk about "feel"..
I just "Spin" into "D" and GO, than "Spin" into "P" to Park...
I remember a thing about my (three) Rangers (1986-2022)..
The darn things were ALL the Same Height. I could (getting up early for work in the A.M.) insert the "Key" (yes!! They ALL had M-A-N-U-A-L locks) :ROFLMAO: in the dark. and Never Miss...

Ford needs to bring back the column shifter and use that space for either more storage, or a cool removable center console that can be customized.

Their marketing can go nuts talking about it along with the FITS system and the bed features.

Yes, bring back the column shifter like GM has done. While they are at it, maybe offer a console delete and bench seat option.
